It's so they can nicely preserve your eyes to donate to a transplant patient.

Structural integrity is the first and most important safety feature of a car along with seatbelts and other passive safety features. Active safety features like ABS and ESP can help to reduce the amount of crash scenarios you might be in but ultimately it comes down to passive safety to safe your life.

Airbags can cause a great deal of injuries if they are fitted to a car that is not structurally strong and does not deform correctly. Check out [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ig735D8Nfhk[/ame]

See how #8, the Brilliance BS6 has not extra support for the sunroof and the roof folds in allow for much more severe impact from the airbag - possibly fatal. In #6, the Jiangling Landwind you will find an even more deadly combination of airbags and incorrect structural deformation. The look at #3 and imagine what an airbag will do in that piece of sh1t1.

I'm calling BS on this one. Where's your source?

It is true. But look at that youtube vid for an idea of what an airbag will do to a driver in a car not designed for airbags

Just checking, since the "airbag in a Citi" rumour got boring after the 4th time people were spreading it. I know there's no chance in hell that airbags will help in a car that wasn't designed for it, that is why I didn't believe that VWSA will do something like that.

Mind you, greedy VWSA priced SEAT out of the market in South Africa, so I guess it's safe to expect anything.

Ya, it is madness. You can check it out on the website as well.

Now the Citi has a R2000 sound system (so people are even more likely to break in/steal it) AND when you have a crash, instead of the car just crumpling around you/falling to pieces/splitting in two, you will have the joy of an airbag being projected at your head at 200km/h, decapitating/crushing you.

And I have a Velociti

Luckily mine is oldskool (if you can say that about a citi without laughing) in that it has no sound system and no airbags. Safety features upon collision include the doors and engine and the crumple zones are your knees, ribs etc :p

Haven't you noticed? The system automatically adds 10kW to the engine's power :p

Yeah, I can actually do that. Mine is even more oldskool - carburettor FTL.

It is so sad that people in this country are still suckered into buying these cars :(

I love the fact that the one Citi model comes standard with audio. Criminals must be so happy to know they can simply look around for those models without even peering in the window. The amp is even under the front seat - WTF? At least hide it in the boot.

PG Autoglass must be smiling..

That is so ugly it was not even acceptable in the 70's !
Let alone the 80's....

I see it has advanced safety features like no-wipers and automatic oil sump drainage when you drive on anything else but freshly mowed lawns.
The Chrome bits on the door is something VW drivers seem to love.
The roof probably has not reinforcement after the sunroof was added so it will break in two even nicer than most other Mk1s.
If you love all that then you also love bakkies a lot.
