Citigolf Velociti central locking repair costs?

Have a 2005 Velociti 1.4i.

For a while now the central locking has been playing up. Raising and depressing the knob inside the car no longer has any effect on the rest of the doors.

Pressing the lock button once when outside does not do the trick - it now needs two or three presses before all buttons are down. The same goes for opening.
One press still enables/disables the alarm but it is not much use if the doors are still locked

I have tried the spare key and it makes no difference.

I do not want to have my pants pulled down over the price when going to have it repaired. Taking it to my local auto electician.

What should I expect to pay? I assume it can be fixed and the whole mechanism does not need to be replaced?

Yip, i think it can be fixed, should be cheap though, if you regularly deal with this guy he might even do it for free depending on what needs to be done.

That is what I was hoping to hear. I used to get all my speakers fitted by him in the past. Damn thieves kept stealing them so now I don't have any...But he should remember be. :)

Lol, maybe you can assist in taking off the driver's door panel and then he can take a look. I hope it isn't water damage. Sometimes it can just be some allignment issue.
Does it make a sound? Like not getting enough power and moving slowly?

These Central Locking Kits (w/remote) cost R350 (R180 without remote) so hopefully it won't cost more than that to repair.

Very easy to install.

It has been getting progressively worse...It does sound slow and laboured and like not enough power is getting through to lift the knobs up all the way...

Ya, and it's not like Citis are gonna have top of line kits in them either

What about the fact that depressing the knob does not do anything at all? :(

:p True but I've installed 2 of the R350 kits and none have failed yet (touch wood), both in Corsa's tho, one is 5 years running, the other is around 1 year running. Got it from Autostyle, have to be fitted properly tho, if some idiot fits it the solenoid works overtime which = fail. Properly means no weird bends in the wires that attach to the locking mechanism or skew fitted solenoids (not too much to ask for imho).

Good news. This is exactly why I wanted to ask here first. I bet if I had gone to VW, they would have quoted me millions. :(

Not sure, but just have a look at all the pins, they linked together so sometimes if ones broken it messes all of them up...
If something is really broken, it should cost more than R1000...
Rather just put a better system in anyway if they stealing your sound.

This also happens if a door is left open while attempting to lock it.
You have to check if all your sensors are alligned correctly, i.e. if the doors are closed then you shoudn't have a problem.

Have you been in an accident recently that might have shifted the sensors?

Cool. I shall bear that in mind and have a look. To my uneducated ear, it sounds like something electrical/mechanical - like the power is not there to work the system anymore, but I'll check it out like you suggested.

I don't think the dodgy central locking is what caused the sound to be stolen, sadly. I think i could break into a citigolf - alarm, immoboliser, gearlock and all

It might be what caused the syste, to start acting up though, I suppose. If they forced the locks to get in- which they did...

Yeah, the standard system only goes off when a door is opened which is quite stupid frankly. The crooks know this and just break your window and gets everything through there without the setting the alarm off.

R1000? I doubt it is so expensive.

These things usually works on a pump system, there might be a leak in the system.

LOL :D maybe the systems from ye old Bat Mobile Mercedes E class from the 1980's but since the 1990's they've been using solenoids (even before that). But perhaps VW like to keep the system in the same state as the car, 1970's style.

I had the same problem... mainly on the passenger side. If the passengers shirt got hooked on the door pin, it would bend the pin and it would get stuck.
Id press to button to lock the doors and theres this mechanical noise like it trying to lock but the pins arent going down...

That does sound quite similar to what I have...

When you say I should reallign the pins, how should I go about that? They all seem to be the same - sometimes they depress fine (manually) and other times not at all - like they are locked somehow...
