That does sound quite similar to what I have...

When you say I should reallign the pins, how should I go about that? They all seem to be the same - sometimes they depress fine (manually) and other times not at all - like they are locked somehow...

Just try check the pins, make sure theres nothing obstructing the up and down movement...

I will try...But like I said, it seems to vary...Sometimes they all go up and down fine. Sometimes some work and some don't. Sometimes, none of them will go up or down manually. Then I have to lock them with the keys and open them with the keys again

I will get this checked out properly as soon as Vac starts in a few weeks..

So the alarm went off yesterday and simply would not stop. The remote no longer did anything, nor did starting the car

So I took it in to be fixed. R700 to fix wires which had become corroded. Labour and the reprogramming of the keys :(

If the switches that checks if your doors are open are a bit funky it could also cause the central locking not to work. Although I think VWs can lock the doors even of they are open. But it might be something to check - see if your cab light stays on when on Door mode and with all the doors closed.

It seems to be back to working on and off with the remote but not at all by depressing the knob inside the car...

Gonna take it back in on Monday and see what is to be done. R700 well spent, it seems  :(

So, for anyone remotely interested, I took my car back in and it was fixed, only for me to discover that none of my indicators worked.

Took it back, and they fixed that as well.

So, R700 and three trips to the mechanic later and it is finally completely fixed

Just to add to my joyous weekend, the central locking has packed up AGAIN. Back to the same as it was before I first took it in. This is getting ridiculous.

Big up to VW service, how they manage to keep these on the road if they can't even fix a central locking system is beyond me.

Fits tho, I heard that VW Citi Golfs have terrible electrical problems, especially in areas with lots of moisture, my friends Citi certainly has lots of electrical problems.

I have not taken it to VW cos i knew they would be expenive. Now I have paid this place R700, I want something for that money of they can give it back and I'll go somewhere else.

Rather try get your money back, they are obviously a bunch of clowns! You can get new central locking fitted for that price.

Indeed. I knew that going in. I asked here for advice first. I took the car in specifically asking for them to contact me once they had found out what was wrong so they could tell me how much it would cost to repair, then I could decide if I could afford it. I could afford like R300. R700 I would have said no to. But they call me four hours later saying they are done and that there is R700 of only labour to pay for and that there was no way they could call me and quote me this because they did not know how long it was going to take to 'fix'. :(
