Citroen recalls 2 models in South Africa – Owners told to stop driving immediately

10 years after the Takata scandal, Citroen only recalling the cars now?

Honda was way back.

Citroen hoping most cars are written off, so that it cost them less.

How does Citroen have problematic airbags in 2015 to 2019, when takata problems became public in 2014?

I know/knew 2 people with DS3's, great looking cars but reliability = PK.

Back in the day I briefly considered one as well, 2nd hand low mileage for cheap.

Customers are urged to stop driving these vehicles immediately and contact their preferred dealership as soon as possible to schedule a free replacement.
The automaker implores all owners of these vehicles to visit their nearest dealership with haste so that the replacement can be completed, which will be done in under two hours.
Huh?
Guess you have to run to the dealership, get the airbag and install it yourself?

I wonder why the insurers of Citroen owners (both life and short-term), as well as other makes/models affected by safety recalls, are not pushing the message to the clients?

Surely the risk is more with the insurers than it is with the drivers.

Citroen issues ‘urgent’ airbag recall for C3 and DS3 models in South Africa

Stellantis South Africa has issued an urgent airbag recall for Citroen C3 and DS3 models that were manufactured between 2009 and 2019.

The carmaker said customers should stop driving these vehicles immediately and contact their nearest dealership as soon as possible to schedule a free replacement of their Takata airbags.

Stellantis said the airbag replacement process would take less than two hours to be performed.

This is the latest development in the Takata airbag saga that has seen more than 100 million vehicles recalled globally, across multiple brands. Takata airbag inflators are known to have caused at least 28 deaths in the US, mostly from Honda-made vehicles.

“Chemical components of Takata airbags can deteriorate over time, especially when exposed to hot and humid climatic conditions. In the event of a collision requiring the airbag to deploy, the airbag inflator may rupture with excessive force, potentially causing serious injury or even death,” Stellantis South Africa said in a statement issued on Tuesday.

A friends wife owns a DS3 and she got an email from Citroen informing her of the recall. Job was done more than 2 months ago. Is this what we call "breaking news"?

Be reasonable... there is so much DSTV/monochoice news there is little time for anything else.
