City of Joburg drops broadband provider

/contemplates tender application

nope, nope, nope. :D

Removing own content due to the dishonesty of the owners and management of MyBB and the risk exposure which their dishonesty creates for any person maintaining content on their site

unless we can form part of a consortium of providers ...

Pfft! The only qualification required is the overwhelming ability to line their palms with plenty of "leopards" ;)

Another good plan delayed. Wonder how long it's going to take to revive the project

This fibre network will consist of a 900km fibre ring broken into 5 regions – South West, South East, Central, North West, North East.

“The network will be capable of transferring capacity of up to 1.2 terabits per second. We have 9 Core POP’s (point of presence) and 8 Priority Metro sites, with 2 Primary International Transit nodes,” said Nkosi.

... so exactly how far did Bwired get with this project?

You need deep pockets to work for COJ - they don't have their own inventory list and basic decisions can be rolled out, month by month, into years.

Misguided to think that an underground cable will give you 'smart city' status - you need smart people, smart institutions ...

I was involved in some discussions with BWired for a client, that is a MOE (Municipal owned entity). The project did not cover them, and the quote from BWired for connectivity was ridiculous. Wonder what the future holds for those that are on the Joburg network.
