City of Joburg hit by major cyber attack

The City of Johannesburg has fallen victim to a cyber attack which led to its information systems being compromised.

In a post on Twitter, the city stated that it had detected a network breach and has taken appropriate actions to mitigate any potential effects.

“The City of Johannesburg has detected a network breach which resulted in unauthorised access to its information systems,” the city said.

If there indeed was an attack and unauthorized access, then it is simply bad coders and system developers who are the cause of this.

And all I can think is that if I had bought bitcoin when I coulda shoulda, them 4 coins would only have cost me R 1500

Just when Russia lands Nuclear capable planes on South African soil.

Wow, I've read some stupid comments on the internet before, but this has to be in the top 5. You have absolutely no clue how these things (network breaches) work, do you?

Babycakes... what I have already forgotten about system development and security, you still have to learn. This is nothing else but incompetence. Nothing else.

You mean CISCO, Microsoft, Oracle and Linux bad coders and system developers:

CISCO CVE
https://tools.cisco.com/security/center/publicationListing.x
Microsoft CVE
https://www.cvedetails.com/vulnerability-list/vendor_id-26/Microsoft.html
Linux CVE
https://www.cvedetails.com/product/47/Linux-Linux-Kernel.html?vendor_id=33
Oracle CVE
https://www.oracle.com/security-alerts/public-vuln-to-advisory-mapping.html

But then again, it could just be CoJ incompetence:

Probably the latter.

So, according to this genius, the entire IT security industry is based purely on developer's incompetence?

Why are you even wasting time in this pathetic country and this puny forum? Why haven't you left already?

They should just shut down CoJ then by your standard logic.

But LouLou, what you have forgotten (or ever knew) about system development and security is at best rudimentary and more than likely entirely irrelevant or incorrect.

Well, he has forgotten more than other people know, so...

I'll just leave this here, in case anybody wants to know how these things can happen.

I see the 4th industrial revolution is going great.
I wish people would get together and drop the mother of all class-action lawsuits if that info gets released.

the city of jhb are the victims here ?how can we help ? how is that not our first response.... (rant over)

who protects people from Cyber attacks ? - should we not explore a cyber response (police force) for ZA - other countries seem to have that ...if we remain divided we will continue to be picked off in a divided fashion for these things... based on the screen looks like ad/credential compromised
