Major South African city going big on electric vehicles

City Power, Johannesburg's municipal power utility, will unveil its first electric vehicle fleet in the coming month.

This is part of a programme to replace City Power's vehicles with electric models.

What a joke. City Power can't even supply JHB reliably. An ever-growing maintenance backlog and they're splurging on new fleet vehicles.

Private business. I’m sure some entrepreneurial spirit will create some viable business models. I’ll be the first one to make available an off-grid, solar fast charger with a giant battery. Everyone is free to charge at R20/kWh.

Great to see my rates and taxes being used in such a positive manner I mean, they could have used it to fix infrastructure, to maintain infrastructure, to expand infrastructure, etc. but electric cars being charged by aging coal plants in the name of 'going green' is nice.
