Clarification on driver's licence expiry periods

In July, the Department of Transport published a directive outlining the new validity periods for motoring licences in South Africa.

This directive included an extension to learner's licences, driving licence cards, and temporary driving licences.
 
Great, mine expires in Jan. So now I must stand in a queue with everyone else.
 
are traffic departments open again?

I'm stuck with this too. Does anyone know how early before expiry you can renew a driving licence card?
 
Just booked my drivers license renewal after trying for a week to get an appointment.
Always 0 SLOTS.

For driver’s licence renewals, the following are needed:
  1. Identity document (ID) and a copy of your ID, old driving licence card, or valid South African passport
  2. Four black-and-white ID photographs
  3. Proof of residential address, like a utility account
  4. The prescribed application fee

Where does requirement 2 and 3 come from???

POA seems a general requirement nowadays. But the photos they take digital ones in any case.
 
Renewed my drivers on 8Jul, still waiting for the notification to collect...
 
for renewal is Traffic Register no a requirement?

Did mine in Jan expired date was for June 2020, so did it 6 Months before it expired. Good thing I did I guess, only problem is the new one expires in Jan 2025 now, so you lose out on those months you applied early.
 
anyone taken an optometrists report to get their license renewed instead of doing the test at the facility?

looks like joburg has a far more slick online appointment process than cape town (i.e. CPT doesnt have one - would've expected the other way around) - are you from jhb/cpt?

Thanks for the info.
They should update the booking system to indicate POA requirement.

What is the process if you didn't pick up your card 2 years ago. Do you just apply the same as you are applying for a new one?

You only need 2 photos if you apply for a temp as well.
