Hey All,

I was just wondering if someone in the know could clarify the rules surround dormant domains, specifically .co.za domains.
Are people allowed to register a co.za domain and keep it inactive, effectively forever. Ie. The domain does not display any content when visiting it.

Thanks in Advance,
Steve

I don't see why not.

As long as the registrar is receiving the yearly fee they aren't going to care what happens to the domain.

The domain might also be e-mail only; or for some internal systems, so that external access then just gives a blank page etc. An empty web page is not enough to indicate a dormant domain, since domains are for much more than just web browsing.

i have several clients with dormant domains running email-only or app-specific web services.

are you referring to domain squatters? because if theyre infringing on your copyright you can get the domain, you just need to prove theyre infringing

Yes you can.

When you buy that domain it belongs to you, how you use it is no one's business (this excludes the usuals), whether you use it for mail only or content or no content or just cause you want to sell it 5 years from now you can do that.
