Hi All,

I am in the process of starting a sideline business for myself. I need to import some PVC containers for a product which I supply. Despite not being very heavy, they take up a large volume and must be shipped by sea.

My question is: Do I need a clearing agent to get my shipment from the port of Durban up to Johannesburg? Normally I Air Freight my stuff, then just go and pay the duties myself at O.R Tambo. The SAPO acts as my clearing agent in this case. I am not certain how this would apply in this instance because as much as I want it to, the ship can't get to Joburg :(

I think I am missing a piece of the puzzle here. Any advice would be appreciated. :)

hi there,

Yes you will definitely need to use a clearing agent for this. Also i suggest you get a comprehensive quote so you know what you are in for. You also need to get an importers code.

Ive been in the industry for 14 years now and will send you my details and you can contact me for assistance.
