Hi guys,

I'm experimenting with ClearOS for small business environments. All looks good so far apart from the bandwidth monitoring. How are you monitoring bandwidth usage as per below? Is ntop a viable app? Any suggestions appreciated.

I need to log bandwidth:

1.) Per IP address
2.) Per protocol
3.) hourly, daily, monthly etc
4.) I need to be able to pull reports for this

Thanks
J

If you have a centralized server that all the connections run through then ntop is the tool for the job.

It can do all of the above you mentioned and more.

Thanks,

That's exactly what I wanted to hear!

The plan is to have it go router > clearos > pc's - so that I can monitor all traffic and provide detailed bandwidth reports. Will test ntop shortly - is it difficult to configure / use - not much in terms of screenshots on their website.

Thanks again
J

Nope, not difficult at all, install it and then run it in a browser window:
http//127.0.0.1:3000

Now go around and see if you like it.

Setup on a VM atm and i'm roaming between diff networks with my laptop, so i'm loathe to load the VM till I get home. I'll follow up then and let you know.

Thanks
