LOL.
Dear customer

Electricity was previously billed on lifeline tariff by mistake, for the past six weeks the billing department rectified it by reversing the lifeline tariff and replaced it with residential , not business tariff. The word business was a printing error though the amounts billed are correct,

We apologise for the inconvenience caused

I've had to sort out a 50k bill, you either pay someone to go queue,or you go queue 5 hours at HO and get it sorted in 10min
I mailed coj address, didn't get joy. Mailed executive mayor's office and waited for 2 weeks and reminded the escalated address. They blamed excessive bill on earlier mistake of putting us on lifeline tariff and now consider matter as resolved as the billing amount is correct.

Sounds like rubbish to me, how can the amount be correct if you were billed on a business tariff? Are they saying you were having it good all along on this lifeline tariff and now they've made things right? Because I don't get the head or tail of what they are saying.

Yeah, it looks like exactly what they are saying. We were apparently on a lifeline tariff. Business was just a printing mistake and they mean residential tariff. Apparently. Had I received exact timelines or even months when they put us on this magical lifeline tariff, it would have convinced me about this "mistake" as I could at least cross check it.

I think that's exactly what you should demand, because it looks like nonsense to me, just be a nuisance and escalate it to the mayor again and anywhere else you can until you get a good explanation that is supported by evidence.

I will actually settle the bill no matter what it is but yeah, I reckon they won't cut off as long as they get some amount every month. Fortunately, it is under 7K so it is fine. Have heard of bills in excess of 50K and that would be a real problem if that happens.
I had bills of 70,80,90 and then one month around 100K at my previous place. Apparently, I was running a particle accelerator. I just laughed.

No, lol **** those okes. I just paid my average and eventually, they got the correct readings. I never pay COJ in full, every month I'm getting reversals so it balances itself out.

Edit* this is for water

Sorry to bring this back to life. Last year I had my meter replaced and the new meter installed. COCT sent me a bill for R118K for just water...saying I used 2 021KL in a month...75KL per day (this was OCT 2021)

Since then its gone back to normal (around 3KL a month). I have tried every avenue possible but they are adamant the meter was on 0 when installed and went of to 2 021KL (it is there now, and I monitor it each week)

Firstly 75KL a day is impossible, I think max flow would be 8K per day. 2nd my meter seems to be stuck between digits (the last digit for 2 and 3 million even though the digit before is only on 1)

Any ideas, lawyers etc??? Right now I will take any advice...even move to aus

Even when it makes absolutely no sense you can trust the municipality to always stick to their story. And here was I thinking that this is a Joburg thing that doesn't happen in the Independent Republic.

Sorry I don't have any advice regarding lawyers and legal action.

I used a 3rd party for the same thing. They charge, but it was rectified within days.
