The time has come for Jacob to do the right thing, you must resign Mr president. Not only have you breached your oath of office but you trampled the constitution, the highest law in our country, as declared by the highest court.

It's amazing how many black people live in old run down houses yet drive a Merc. Simple fact, they don't care. They know the benefits that colonialism brought them and they are riding it for all it's worth. It's only a few loudmouth idiots that are unable to amount to anything that are getting more attention than they deserve and the ANC and EFF are playing them like the muppets they are.

The ANC's Khaya Magaxa said Zille was close to being a raving racist, while the EFF's Bernard Joseph said it was time for her to do the right thing.
That's hilarious coming from members of those two parties.

Nothing amazing about that...

You have a good point right there BUT I remember, last time this year most news papers and people in SA were sure - JZ will be gone by 1st of April 2016. Guess what?

The only people covering up the past are the people still living in it. Ok, so let's say we all agree that colonialism was bad period. Suppose someone were to invent a time machine. Let's give everyone a chance then to go back and undo it and every aspect of it. How many people do you honestly think will do that? I know you probably wouldn't. I know Maimane wouldn't. I know C4Cat probably wouldn't. I know even BlackMamba probably wouldn't. I think that actually says it all. Sorry but a South Africa that can't move past its history is not a South Africa I can call mine.
I'm sorry, but history is /everything/. Should we still be subjected to the rule of the British empire?

Understanding and learning from your histroy is one thing. Blaming it for all of one's mistakes moving forward is another.

For this reason history, while important, is not "everything". At some point one needs to take responsibility for one's future.

Who is talking about blame? This thread is about Zille's comment! I certainly do not blame colonialism for our current situation.

Zille's tweet was about our current political habit of blaming our past for the fsck ups of the present. This far into the thread you still haven't realised this?

No, but they are no longer our enemy and will only be our enemy again if they try and colonise us again. There is no need to hold a grudge forever. History is important, you are correct about that.
If you want to be realistic about this, you have to consider how a peaceful relationship with them are beneficial. Do you see any threat of British empire building at the moment that's going to affect us?

Yes, creating a magical layer of context to a 140 letter tweet.

She ****ed up. She should have conceded immediately that she did.

Of course not. The UK is an ally to South Africa. We share a lot of cultural common grounds. That doesn't mean we can white-wash history.

History has been hijacked for political point scoring , nothing more.

We have yesterday, today and tomorrow. What we do today is what counts.

We can spend today complaining about yesterday, or we can spend today planning for tomorrow. We cannot do both.

In S.A. the problem is complaining about yesterday.

She's commenting about how poeple are saying today colonialism this colonialism that, "Current economy! It's colonialism's fault. Eskom! Colonialism yet again. The drought, well if colonialism didn't happen...."

I don't think so. I think she opened up an important country wide conversation that needed to happen. Even if people disagree with her, they are being faced with a piece of information they didn't think existed until now.

I agree. We should stop complaining about yesterday. And that means coming to terms with the fact that our colonialist past is something we fought against and beat. It should be a source of pride.
