Because she’s Jewish duh, and the subject is a close analogue.
The nazis built good roads, stalin built a good subway in moscow, chairman mao industrialised china.
Things have complexities

First accept the fact that the DA has no chance whatsoever to beat the ANC, even if they didn't have these tweets and even if the CoCT didn't have corruption allegations and a mismanaged drought.
Then the answer to your question reveals itself: it makes no difference in the national election picture, but locally it DOES. The DA have become complacent in Cape Town and need a wake-up call to correct things.

The truth is always the best. If you have to BS people in order not to hurt their feelings you are dealing with the wrong kind of people. So only just MOSTLY stupid.
The truth is not always convenient or opportune.
This is a political battle, not Geography class.
Why do you say her tweets will only appeal to whites? I would say it appeals to anyone with a bit of common sense.
Common sense doesn't offend people needlessly.
We all know what colonialism built, but we also know at what price.
The pipes are there, what good is it going to do harping on where they came from?
Is she going to ask the colonials to expand the pipe network? To upgrade the system? The fix the water problems?
No? So then why even bring it up? What point could it serve other than to remind people of a painful past?
Obviously the can’t win NOW, but the sooner they start growing the voter base the better, Zille is setting them back years.

Everyone can do with a bit of a geography lesson, but a History lesson would be even more beneficial.
Adding a few years to an infinite number ... big whoop
Especially in a sarcasm-loaded tweet. That's completely the wrong way to go about things.
If all it takes to set them back "years" is a single tweet, then yes, they have no hope in hell to begin with. You can’t seriously think that the DA has no chance of winning EVER do you? That’s just ridiculous.
Maybe it's better to die honest than to live a lie.People around here forget that we’re not in America and Trump-style foot-in-mouth politics won’t do the DA any favours.
The dogs aren't sleeping. It's been in the news lately that the poor black people have been having day zero since forever. And now the white people will understand their suffering because they have been privileged in the past.Leaving painful subjects alone is not BSing them. Nobody is asking her to lie.
Just let sleeping dogs lie.
If all it takes to set them back "years" is a single tweet, then yes, they have no hope in hell to begin with.
Which is not to say it is mathematically impossible, we can't rule out the slim chance of a meteor killing the entire ANC for example, but it is extremely unlikely to the point of being practically impossible.
Maybe it's better to die honest than to live a lie.
Well, considering the wound is pus filled and there's no prospect of it healing before the pus is drained, ignoring the wound isn't going to help.Gary put it nicely IMO. Not so much a lie as continuously picking at a gaping wound. How are people supposed to get over something if you keep throwing it in their face at every opportunity?

Her tweets perfectly addresses this.
Fine, two tweets? Three? Sure as hell isn't all that regular IIRC. Point stands, if voters are alienated that easily the party was already screwed. This is not a single tweet. It’s consistent alienating behaviour from one of their most senior members over several years
Define what you mean by get over something. This is not a single tweet. It’s consistent alienating behaviour from one of their most senior members over several years.
