That's out of date, doesn't take the 45% top tax bracket into account.

Also, doesn't take into account other taxes like VAT, fuel, private medical aid, private security, property rates, carbon tax, plastic bag tax...

It was an example to show a flaw in the logic that people seem to be applying. You don't have to experience a calamity to have sympathy for people who regularly experience it. What the person in the tweet was implying , was that it was a good thing that people who pay for water have to experience the wonders of not having piped water. You make a comment like that, you deserve to get shot down with the cold truth.

I think the biggest thing we should be thankful for is the fact that we live in 2018 and not in any of the preceding centuries. That overshadows just about every other facet of our lives.

In apartheid days when I was a kid, I was almost beaten to death by the police for accidentally going into the "Blankes" part of the beach. This is just one of the million horrors that occured back then. You are lucky that it ended peacefully in 1994.
