That's out of date, doesn't take the 45% top tax bracket into account.

Also, doesn't take into account other taxes like VAT, fuel, private medical aid, private security, property rates, carbon tax, plastic bag tax...

Are you familiar with the boerwars especially the 2nd one and who the colonisers were.

This is before apartheid.

And yes I'm not aware that black people were killed in concentration camps under apartheid or had their houses and farm burned.

Indeed and all black people I meet everyday never cease to be thankful to your ancestors because they were not as cruel.

We can discuss that when the subject of tax comes up. I can also say whatabout some or other unrelated junk, but that has nothing to do with the subject at hand.

It was an example to show a flaw in the logic that people seem to be applying. You don't have to experience a calamity to have sympathy for people who regularly experience it. What the person in the tweet was implying , was that it was a good thing that people who pay for water have to experience the wonders of not having piped water. You make a comment like that, you deserve to get shot down with the cold truth.

And your whole post is true, we don't get it for free. But those are people that barely has a roof over their heads. Why, I do not know, they might just be lazy, or they got dealt a **** hand. Who are you to judge? That is anyway not what my post was about. My post was about people like you and aunty Zille taking offense when those people say that we will now be feeling what they have for years. It's not untrue.

Maybe we (me very well included) will have a bit more sympathy for them now. Unless they are criminals, then f them.

Those people making the tweets seem fine to me.

Zuma's presidency hasn't been all bad

the country generated a trade surplus for the first time in years and I went to the soccer world cup under his presidency

I also managed to buy a property which doubled in value

and so was Vorster's rule - because Dr. Chris Barnard performed world's first human to human heart transplant back then, yes? And pretty sure some Piet probably got his property appreciated during his tenure and visited some nice places.

What kind of a stupid comment is this. I don't expect any black person to be thankful for apartheid and the very mild cruelty in it, it was a stupid and morally wrong system that went on far to long.

You should be thankful though that we chose to end it peacefully in '92

I think the biggest thing we should be thankful for is the fact that we live in 2018 and not in any of the preceding centuries. That overshadows just about every other facet of our lives.

There are way worse things that have happened, so the words used depends one your scale of measurement. It was a crime against humanity, but there are far worse crimes against humanity that left millions dead, and being dead is the worst thing.

Mild cruelty?

In apartheid days when I was a kid, I was almost beaten to death by the police for accidentally going into the "Blankes" part of the beach. This is just one of the million horrors that occured back then. You are lucky that it ended peacefully in 1994.

end it peacefully, as apposed to ? the game was up, the ruling political and economic elite saw no more real value in continuing Apartheid, writing was on the wall...dumped the poor fools that still believed in the illusions of HF Verwoerd...and moved on...and made nice with the new bosses.

Israel vs Palestine. That scenario is linked to apartheid quite often.

Pleasure. Don't worry about it, we only did what was right and now we're all equal.
