I just thought I ask if any of you have been paid a flight to come to the interview and what was the outcome of the interview.
Basically I'm trying to figure out what is the likelihood of landing a job offer from a company that paid you a flight to attend the interview.

Thanks

Happened to me once. Flew me in, one of two they flew in, I got the job. I doubt a company is going to pay for tickets for an unlikely candidate.

The answer is pretty obvious i think, companies wont pay for a flight unless ur very close to securing the job. The only reason u prob wont get it is u lied on ur cv and they expose u during interview..

Yup - I'd guess 3 or less people shortlisted.

Also, I'm guessing they wouldn't fly out a candidate for a R6,000.00pm job ...

I know a lady that went for an interview overseas, with Siemens in Germany I think.
She never got the job.

If the interview is at HQ then they fly in a bunch of people as it costs them next to nothing with discounts with the airlines. Generally these are shortlisted candidates only as mentioned above.

Looks like it depends, how was the interview?

CV's can look good, but employers can tell alot from meeting someone in person... or at least they (the employers) think they can tell alot by meeting someone.

I've been for a few interviews like this in Europe, purely on the strength of a CV. One time there was an accident in a tunnel, so I never made it to the airport. I notified them straight away, but they didn't arrange another interview. It was almost as if they were implying that I should have allowed for a 10 mile traffic jam.

I've worked at a number of government depts. All the shortlisted candidates from outside the province are flown in. Even when we know we are hiring someone in our own office, we'll still fly in other people who qualify. They might impress at the interview and get offered another job or be called back as the preferred candidate next time.

But the mere fact that you are flown out to an interview is not a reliable indicator that you'll get the job.
