So I got an email from one of our customers...

We are having our year end factory shut down party on ____ December 2017.

We would be grateful if you could assist us with 5 prizes that I can use for various awards we will be having on the day which includes:

Pick a Box
Lucky draws
Awards for going the extra mile
100% attendance.
Department performers.

Any additional smaller prizes as part of the lucky draw process would also help.

We have ____ employees so would be grateful for your help.

Please could you let me know if you are able to help.

As part of my commitment will be to announce on the day your companies contribution, please feel free to have your company logos in the prizes.

If you are able to help please send the prizes for my attention.

Now maybe you guys can correct me here, but I'm wondering why we have to sponsor their own company's performance prizes.
Surely that's a bit of a slap in the face when a company says hey we're rewarding your performance, here's a prize from another company.
Talk about cheap.
And it feels like a bit of blackmail to me. Give us prizes or we don't buy from you. (That opinion is based off more than just this one request)

What do you guys think?

Yep definitely a cheapskate move that.

Send them pics of your spare toiletries and be like this is what we have... (toilet paper, air freshener, etc. :p)

Yeah, I'd reply with a strongly worded email on that one...

Jesus, I'd never ask my suppliers for anything of the sort!

Dafuk. Well some of our countrymen does seem to have a total disconnect with professionalism. Just the other day a friend bailed out of a house purchase when it came to putting pen on paper. The email that followed from the estate agent's personal mail was one big emotional blackmail stopping just short of a tirade. Wanted him to forward it to their company but he wouldn't let me. At least I got to tell her what professionalism was all about. (friend types one wpm and BBC)

I've heard of this in the government sector ... they get their suppliers to "sponsor" the gifts/prizes
first time I heard of it happening in the private sector though

unfortunately this is their way of eliciting a bribe ... and if you don't pay, good luck getting another contract with them.

I’ve heard suppliers complaining about it in the supermarket industry in Europe but I don’t have more details.

It’s really the summum of unprofessionalism.

Maybe I should ask my suppliers to sponsor a few 1080's for my year end prize giving...

Well, the wording doesn't sound threatening, even though the intention probably is. I'd just politely tell them that your prize giving budget has been all spent on your own employees.

In some industries like ours (travel) this is common, but it's an incentive based environment so it makes sense.

It feels like a kind of guilt trip kickback, though. Surely it's frowned upon in all industries, and even against company policies in many cases.

Brilliant idea this, think I'll gask my customers to do my Xmas shopping for me. Anyone know a good bulk mailing service?

Ya our requests don't go out like in the OP :)

its normally we having our year end we are looking for sponsored prizes what are you offering.
of course on our end we have to make (actually exceed) the targets they have set before they even consider this.
and our company also adds in some stuff as well.
