These two phones are so similar, which is the prefered one to go for? (I'm due for an upgrade in April - Both are from Vodacom @ R199.00)

Huawei P8lite or Samsung J5 Prime?

Huawei.... because I really don't like Samsung's changes to Android.

Totally useless opinion but so are those that are about to follow.

April is too far away.

there is Mobile world congress coming out, that will release new phones (not a new Galaxy though) and that will drive the price of older handsets down.

the phones you are looking to compare is:
a midrange Samsung, where the Samsung bloatware will bog up the phone's ram, and make doing average tasks take forever.
compared to a lite version of the flagship from 2015

so the base tech you are comparing against each other is 2 to 3 years old in both cases. this means there will be no OS updates, and that means everyday apps will start lagging as they are built for newer hardware, and newer OS.

if April comes around, and these two are still the only options in your price range, I would say go for the P8.

that being said, rather look at the other Chineese phones like Xiaomi

Many thanks. I just do not want to go over R199.00. (& I'm pretty much tied to Vodacom, for what it's worth)
I know it's early days yet, & I just wanted to get a few opinions.
The phones seem to have identical specs, but with the J5 having Android 6, & physical buttons.

Maybe, the P9 lite will be on special by then (he said, hopefully!)

If you are still happy with your current phone you can probably get the same contract at a very reduced price pm. Downside is that you'll have to buy your own phone cash when it needs to be replaced.

It's my second phone contract. I'm paying R129.00 at the moment, & the phone is too small for me. I'm prepared to go to R199.00.
