One regulator whining about overinflated school-clothes pricing, which is governed by another regulator.

You cannot make this shiit up.

Glad my son matriculated last year. He just made it on 2 shirts that were starting to fray 2 months before the end of the year. Just because these shirts are a certain light brown they are R280 each.

They do this at the start of every year when people complain and eventually it runs dead until the next start of the following year when people complain again.

School uniforms should be generic and all state funded schools should use identical uniforms. No variation, no special badges, etc. The law should prohibit requiring anything other than generic clothing.

Schools shouldn't be making deals with clothing manufacturers. The production should be open to anyone who wants to produce the clothing. If you're going to allow variation in uniforms then make members of the school governing body and management, along with their friends in the uniform business, personally liable for transgressions. Then hit them with crippling fines. No upper limit.
