Vodacom, Vumatel deal heads for big fight at Competition Tribunal

South Africa’s Competition Tribunal has set 20 May 2024 as the date for the final hearing regarding a proposed transaction between Vodacom, and Vumatel’s parent company Maziv.

Remgro head of strategic investments Pieter Uys provided an update on the expected timeline for the Competition Tribunal’s assessment of the transaction at the company’s annual results presentation on Thursday.

But would this see Vumatel line fees decrease if it's approved, considering what Vuma would be gaining here...

Just had a Vodacom representative pitch up at the door, telling me they know own some % of the Vumatel network.

I can swich to Vodacom, as my ISP - for a "better" price. 1 Gbps was apparently R899...

Luckily, openserve is also installed in my area, so if Vodascum eff up Vumatel, I can jump to openserve.
