I am looking to sign up for fiber in Three Anchor Bay, Green Point, Cape Town area which is serviced by Octotel. I have narrow my choice down to either Cool Ideas or Home Connect, and I recently looked into Comtel. Looking at 100mbps/25 uncapped, unshaped as well as add on VOIP.
Cool ideas- Pricing seems to be good considering that when asked they say installation (the usual 1710) is included on the month to month package, fully unshaped, reading on the Fair Use Policy they do not have a heavy usage cap. The reviews I found on line are a mix of very positive and very negative on customer services.
HomeConnect - Pricing is good as well, they have very good reviews online, waiting to clarify what is the installation cost with them on their T&C is listed at 2850ZAR, but other paragraph they say the subsriber pays the provider directly on the Activation pacakge and the Connect Package the subsriber will be refunded up to 1710ZAR. I found they have an heavy usage policy on which after they would throttle or shape as needed, this cap has been revised from 500GB a month to 1000GB a month.
Comtel - I found their services quite appealing, but I have found no experiences from user? is anyone using them? do they have an heavy usage policy?
Heavy Usage Policy (in reading on NetFlix usage) UHD is 7 GB/hr, HD is 3 GB/hr, SD is 0.7 GB/hr. By a quick back of the envolope calculation at UHD it would just take about two streaming a couple of hours a day (1000/7 = 150+ hrs / 30 days =5 hrs / 2 screen = 2.5 hrs/day/screen)
Anyone has VOIP with any of the providers? I understand VOIP packages do not need to be with the same provider of fiber, it looks like VOX has very attractive packages, anyone has VOX VOIP? I have excluded them fiber given the numerous poor reviews so perhaps the same issue extend to their VOIP.
