Concern over "out of control" Eskom

Yes, pricing is a major issue. Eskom should be allowed to increase the price of electricity to R10/kWh so that they can cover the cost of burning diesel 24/7/365 instead of coal.
And giving away for free, but only to some.

LOL.

All those wannabe accountant-types running around with their little solar-power spreadsheets, wringing their hands, renting their garments and gnashing their teeth amidst shouting "ROI", could be forgiven for forgetting the huge taxpayer bailouts that we pay every year to Eskom, for really crappy service.

What they fail to see is the true cost per kWh, not what they charge for it, but what it actually ends up costing.

All those kneepads at R45,000 ea, the brooms at R120,000 ea and mops at R230,000 ea, plus the annual municipal bailouts to Soweto, Alex, Thembisa, Mamelodi, Atteridgeville, plus the expunging of the bad debts databases at the credit bureaus, plus the coal thieving, spare parts thieving and deliberate breaking of plant and coal transport infrastructure to get jobcards filled, plus the incompetent Eskom employees who earn on average R798 000/year (in 2018).

They all add up, and are not included in the price that NERSA fixes every year, despite it being around 15% (well over 3x CPI).

Those costs should never be included though else all NERSA would be doing is raising the bar higher for theft, corruption, mismanagment, etc.

We're already at the point where going off-grid with solar is a viable option for many situations and compares favourably to municipal tariffs. Raising Eskom's tariffs higher isn't the solution but it's the only politically acceptable option right now.

Eskom isn't too big to fail and neither is the small handful of tax payers bailing out Eskom and SOEs.

Sure, but my point is that very few if anyone are taking them into account, and the ANC is hiding the true cost in plain sight. NERSA should be disbanded, they are useless and do not fulfil their mandate. If they did, it would expose the ANC's game.

No he doesn't, the Moonshot is taking over remember? Unless of course President Moonshot realise just how good he is and keeps him.
Awww the deflecting and whataboutisms are getting pathetic now. President Moonshot is more involved in your anus than he is in Eskom. In fact, an anus taking over government would be an improvement in every way. Shill.

I don't understand why a regulator is needed to regulate one company. All they do is give in to that company's demands, just lessening the demand slightly. Like calming a toddler down.

In a free market they might actually be more useful...
