Having trouble connecting to 1 Telkom Connect wifi hotspots all of a sudden. using laptop with Windows 8.1.

There is no indication on their website what PRECISE settings to select using Windows 8. So can't successfully troubleshoot.

For instance what security the network uses, WEP, AES, no security?

Check or uncheck validate server certificate, etc.

Above is the only possible problem there could be, every other published setting has been checked, i.e. EAP-PEAP selected, password & profile correctly configured, authentication set to manual. etc.

It is not an adapter problem, other networks including 1 Telkom Guest connecting fine.

Beyond frustrating.

Laptop is a secondary device so no SIM authentication. Network was connecting fine using EAP-PEAP until a few days ago, so can't figure out what has changed.

MAC addresses are no longer valid using the 1 Telkom Connect SSID. It requires the input of username and password. The MAC address was correctly added to Telkom profile, cause I can still connect to 1 Telkom Guest SSID with it.

Telkom has changed something in the EAP-PEAP security settings is my best guest.

Using 1 Telkom Guest not an option, cause it chronically disconnects.

What I mainly need to know is what security option to select, WEP or Open or network assigned AES

This was raised with us today and the content team is fixing.

Have a look at https://secure.telkom.co.za/today/shop/plan/telkom-wifi-plan/ maybe?

Thanks. But there are additional requirements for a Windows setup that are not indicated on the above mentioned page. Most importantly it doesn't indicate what kind of security the connection uses, i.e. none, AES or WEP. Secondly, it doesn't indicate whether to use security certificate validation or not. I suspect those two settings are at issue here.

P.S. A netsh wlan cmd prompt query of the 1 Telkom Connect SSID suggests there is no security.

As far as I remember way back then, there was no security on the SSID itself.

Connecting on my mac, things used to just work
