Openserve installed my Fibre line on Friday after a wait of almost 5 months. I struggled a bit this weekend getting Fibre up and running, totally missing the use of the ONT in the equation, thinking that it would also be the router. I received the username and password from WebAfrica (thanks guys - I called them and reloaded my order on Tuesday last week) this morning, but the Techie will only be coming some time later to configure the Fibre setup. Impatient as I am, I tried Dr. Google to see how it works, and a few websites later I am online. Quick guide, perhaps it will help some-one else as I actually battled my arse off.

A: Openserve installed the ONT, LOS light on.
B: WebAfrica confirmed that the Fibre Package is active.
C: Webafrica send me username and password.
D: I have an unused Linksys ADSL router with WAN port. Naturally this is for the Linksys router, it will be different for another router but you will be able to figure it out I'm sure.
E: Installed Linksys router on network. Configured the Linksys router with WA username and password. See Figure below.

1. Remove tick from Auto, select Ethernet.
2. Select PPPoE
3. Enter username and password.

Connect WAN port with RJ45 cable to LAN1 port on ONT (other ports did not work, I tried LAN4 on ONT first)

I actually tried a few ports, but the moment I connected the WAN port with the LAN1 on ONT the one light on the Linksys modem went blue ...

Running to PC I saw I am on internet. I am drinking a fine Whiskey as I type this celebrating my victory.

Coming from ADSL I at best got a 0.5 - 2 Mbps line, and when it was raining or any bad weather I had no internet. For me this is heaven.

LOS = Loss Of Signal.
If the "LOS" light is lit on your ONT then = bad news.

either your fibre is down (broken) or your ONT's configuration (that points to your ISP) has not yet been loaded on the OLT.
This process usually takes a day or 5 (depending on the network infrastructure provider)

Right now the OLT sees your ONT on the network but it (the OLT) doesn't yet know what to do with your traffic. (doesn't know where to route it to)

Once your ONT's configuration (IP, MAC, VLAN ID) is loaded on the OLT, it will route your traffic to your ISP and you'll be online.
