Hamas never agreed to the ceasefire, not saying they did the right thing but if they didn't agree to it then they didn't break it.

Misstating the facts doesn't help your credibility.

That's actually worse than breaking the ceasefire. When it's your own population that's getting killed (militants and civilians) you'd think a ceasefire to avoid further loss of life would be a priority.
Obviously not for Hamas

Riiiight so they didnt technically break a ceasefire, semantics.
Israel agreed to a halt of fire, Hamas being the terrorist scum they are continued to shell Israel. Now tell me who was in the wrong? Oh wait of course it was Israel

Semantics, or facts as you like to call them. Sorry, but a ceasefire has to be agreed by both combatants, sorry to let facts get in the way of your rant.

I wasn't making a judgement call on the correctness of accepting/not acceptint it, would just like to see a bit more honesty from both sides of this debate, there are more than enough sketchy details in this thread without people twisting things to suit their agenda.

Saying "never agreed" sounds like they maybe weren't informed there was a ceasefire. They *rejected* the ceasefire that Israel had already agreed to, and actually implemented, therefore they are then responsible for anything that happens after that point. Now we get to hear more muslims playing the "victim" card meanwhile hammas started the whole thing (now, not in 1948) AND then rejected the ceasefire.

Even if the kids were "instructed" to go play on the beach, and the IDF did make a mistake. Why don't they own it. They have nothing to gain by targeting civilians and everything to lose.

The implications of 'owning it' are that the IDF has an FOP with eyes on the beach.

Reality is that the target area is programmed into the fire control system. A reference is then shelled, not kids playing soccer.

well, i am really just curious about the "mingled crowd" aspect from an islamic perspective.
does it mean the various people of the area will ultimately unify as one nation in one state together - or am i getting it all wrong ?

to my mind, that would be the ultimate solution for the region, given the various peoples lived side by side in relative harmony a long time back.
It is what is desirable indeed. Any person advocating a pure arab palestine is no better than a Zionist.

I think that was last week. It was near the start of the latest IDF Gaza campaign.
I posted it earlier in this thread.

ISRAEL TANK FIRE KILLS 3 GAZANS, MINUTES BEFORE TRUCE

Israeli tank fire hit a house in southern Gaza on Thursday, killing three people, minutes before a five-hour truce went into effect, medics said.

Emergency services spokesman Ashraf al-Qudra said four other people were seriously wounded in the attack on the house in Rafah.

He named those killed as Mohamed Ghanem, 25, Abdullah Akhras, 27, and Bashir Abdel Aal, 20, and said six tank shells were fired in the attack.

The remains of the three men arrived in pieces, he added.

The latest deaths brought the overall toll in 10 days of violence in and around Gaza to 230 Palestinians killed.

One Israeli has been killed in rocket fire by militants in Gaza, who have sent hundreds of missiles into the Jewish state during the conflict.

BILL CLINTON WARNS ISRAEL ON 'ISOLATING ITSELF FROM WORLD OPINION'

Former US president Bill Clinton has warned Israel about "isolating itself from world opinion" due to repeated conflicts in Gaza after four children were killed on a beach in the latest violence.

More than 220 Palestinians, most of them civilians, have died during 10 days of Israeli bombing and shelling in Gaza in retaliation for over 1,200 rocket attacks from Hamas militants.

"Over the long run it is not good for Israel to keep isolating itself from world opinion because of the absence of a viable peace process," Clinton told the Indian NDTV news channel on Wednesday.

"In the short to medium term, Hamas can inflict terrible public relations damage on Israel by forcing it to kill Palestinian civilians to counter Hamas," he added.

Hamas had a "strategy designed to force Israel to kill their own (Palestinian) civilians so the rest of the world will condemn them," while Israel couldn't "look like fools" by not responding to the heavy missile attacks.

Clinton, who pushed hard while president for a comprehensive peace deal at a Camp David summit in 2000, urged Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to resume serious talks.

"I believe that Prime Minister Netanyahu could and should make a comprehensive peace agreement with the Palestinians," he said, adding that he believed 60 percent of Israelis would support him.

The objective of all should be "a peace process that gets Israel security recognition and peace and that gets the Palestinians their state," he said.

ISRAEL, HAMAS AGREE GAZA HUMANITARIAN AID TRUCE

Israel and Hamas were Thursday to observe a five-hour humanitarian ceasefire after nine days of fighting, as the army said it had foiled an "infiltration" into southern Israel by Gaza militants.

The two sides agreed following a UN request that they would suspend military action from 0700 GMT to 1200 GMT, after an Egyptian-proposed ceasefire Tuesday fell through.

Hostilities continued ahead of the truce, with new Israeli air strikes taking the Palestinian toll since Israel launched Operation Protective Edge on July 8 to 227 killed and 1,678 wounded, Gaza medical services said.

Hamas meanwhile continued its rocket fire into Israel and, according to the Israeli army, a group of militants early in the morning infiltrated the Jewish state on Gaza's southern border but were sent scurrying by an air strike.

"This morning our forces successfully foiled a terror attack," army spokesman Lieutenant Colonel Peter Lerner told journalists in a telephone briefing.

Thirteen militants emerged from a tunnel under the southern Gaza border, and were headed towards Sufa kibbutz, a small community just over a kilometre (mile) away, when they were spotted, Lerner said.

Israel forces killed at least one of the militants in an air raid, he said, leaving the rest rushing back towards the tunnel.

The army said Israel had conducted at least 37 raids overnight on Gaza, while seven rockets were fired from the Strip, four of which landed in fields and the rest were intercepted by Israel's missile defences.

Since July 8, militants have fired more than 1,200 rockets at Israel. They claimed their first Israeli life on Tuesday.

The Israeli army announced it would halt its bombardment of Gaza from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm (0700 to 1200 GMT) Thursday, following the UN request for a humanitarian truce.

Hamas later followed suit.

But a senior UN official said that it was unlikely any new aid would reach Gaza.

"The Kerem Shalom crossing is closed today for security reasons, aid can't come through Erez -- it's not big enough -- so no new aid is going to enter Gaza today," the official said, referring respectively to Gaza's southern goods crossing and northern personnel border.

Instead, the truce would allow people who have fled their homes to go back to collect supplies from them, and help the UN get to areas it could not reach before, the official told AFP, speaking on condition of anonymity.

Hamas, the Islamist movement that is the main power in Gaza, has rejected initial Egyptian efforts for a full ceasefire, saying it had not been included in the discussions.

But in Cairo on Wednesday, a Hamas official met Egyptian leaders and Palestinian president Mahmud Abbas arrived to join the diplomatic efforts.

Abbas was to travel Thursday to Ankara to pursue truce efforts.

Israeli news website NRG said that "Israeli representatives" would also join the Cairo deliberations.

US President Barack Obama on Wednesday backed Egypt's efforts to broker a ceasefire, offering Washington's full diplomatic support.

"Over the next 24 hours, we'll continue to stay in close contact with our friends and parties in the region, and we will use all of our diplomatic resources and relationships to support efforts of closing a deal on a ceasefire," he said.

A Gaza-based human rights group says more than 80 percent of Palestinian casualties are civilians.

On Wednesday, four children died on the Gaza seashore and several people were wounded in an apparent Israeli naval bombardment, medics said.

Several hours after the strikes, the Israeli military described the deaths as "tragic" and said it was investigating the incident.

"Based on preliminary results, the target of this strike was Hamas terrorist operatives," the military said in a statement.

"The reported civilian casualties from this strike are a tragic outcome."
