Confused: vodacom4u + 3G data bundles

I purchased a datacard today along with a vodacom4u sim card at my local vodashop. I was assured I would be able to buy 3G data bundles and use these to connect to the internet.

I called 082 155 to activate my 3G and the guy who helped me told me I can only buy data bundles on contract and if I use a vodacom4u sim I'd be paying R2 per MB.

I phoned the Vodashop and they said I should SMS MyMeg 20 to 100 and if that worked, it meant I could buy data bundles on prepaid. I just did that and it worked.

Could someone please clarify. Will I be using my 20MB when next I connect to the internet or will I be paying R2 per MB?

You can buy ad-hoc data bundles and use them on your 4U contract.

Maybe log into 4me and see what your profile says.

Or phone 155 and ask them to check your profile, the bundle should be loaded.

If they tell you nonsense again, tell them you want an AD-HOC bundle and not a contract bundle.

But Vodacom don't seem to be making it clear that data bundles are available on prepaid?

I logged into my 4me account. Under my recharge history R35 has been deducted for a data bundle. Should I be checking anywhere else on as well?

Ha ha haa... sorry... :D
The wireless providers are spending so much time and effort coming up with "clever" ways to make money that they have confused themselves.

I see you're not saying anything yet, or a least not committing to a statement or answer. (Being carefull, are we?):D

So then, the obvious question, are PPDB's available yet?

I had this same thing when buying our datacards. We didn't want contracts and were willing to buy the cards.

I followed this thread: http://www.mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthread.php?t=17674 and it worked as it was written.

Sure, the local vodashop guy didn't quite get it at first, but after explaining it the 5th time, he got it :D

Of course, I eventually bought it at that excellent store in Canal Walk, CT

Of course, PPDBs will make this procedure a whole lot easier ;)

Nic, which store was this, the 3G data store or the Vodashop?

3G data store - knew EXACTLY what I was talking about.

To be fair on the vodashop guys upstairs, I didn't talk to them at all.

Okay, this does not seem to be working. As mentioned earlier I bought a 20MB data bundle (by SMSing MyMeg 20 to 100) but as I'm surfing, I'm noticing that my available balance on the Vodacom4me website keeps decreasing.

What did I do wrong?

You SMSed "MyMeg 20" to 100, that's what you did wrong. How do I know this? I've tried it and it doesn't work. The person who told you that doesn't have all his facts straight. Vodacom is still strugling to sort out their prepaid data bungles.

4U Contract + Ad-Hoc Data Bundles works - Quite a few forumites do this.

4U PrePaid + PPDB should not work - it is not available yet. It is not advisable to try this yet, you might hit the test systems and get he impression that it works.

Rather wait for the official announcement when it will be available.

I see, thanks for clearing that up. A pity that I've already purchased R300 worth of airtime in order to buy data bundles.

So, when using a vodacom family topup I'll be able to buy bundles? Will the money be deducted from my current airtime balance, or added on to my bill at the end of the month?

Family TopUp is part of the pre-paid solutions and as such will use the pre-paid data bundles.

vodacom3g, do you by any chance know what the procedure is to upgrade from Vodacom4u Prepaid to Vodacom4u Contract? I asked the guys working at the Vodashop I bought my datacard from but unfortunately noone there has a clue.

I stand corrected . You basically need to meet the vetting criteria of vodacom and your prepaid card can be converted to a Contract
