You can watch bluray movies now on your iMac.

You can connect a USB BD reader/write drive and watch movies via Bootcamp or Fusion/Parallels and Windows - AnyDVDHD may or may not be needed. You'll need Windows and a copy of WinDVD or PowerDVD. There is also a Bluray ripper for Macs in the beta stage of development.

This is nice though. You can now use your iMac as an external display unit for BD drives, PS3, XBOX, Wii, DSTV, Media Players etc.

You could do that, and a friend of mine has a 1Gb/sec connection too, but not everything gets ripped at 1080p and at good quality too ;) plus you get some nice extras with some of the releases.

BTW VLC is pretty bad at handling MKV and subtitles. MPlayer is better I think. On the PC I use Media Player Classic because VLC sucks at Matroska.

Blah, blah, blah...btw 1080p h264.mkv is the de facto standard. What kicks it up a notch is a nas with torrentflux installed, gigE; western digital TV, digital receiver and enough LCD real estate to handle this. (Merry christmas to your friend)

For me, I am using Moyea Blu-Ray Ripper for Mac, which is very powerful in converting Blu-Ray discs.
The details I found are as below:
First, it could directly rip and backup protected DVDs and Blu-Ray DVDs.Directly rip,
Second, it can convert and backup DVDs (*vod) and Blu-Ray DVDs (.*m2ts).
Third, it boasts super high output video/audio quality and fast converting speed.
Fourth, it can convert DVD, Blu-Ray DVD to MOV, MP4 to edit in iMovie, Final Cut Express/ProPowerful editing functions such as trim, crop, add watermark, effect and more.
