Connecting Xiaomi Redmi 4A to PC.

I took delivery of my phone last Thursday and downloaded the MI Suite but am unable to make a connection. I'm using the USB cable that came with the phone. On searching the web I've found that this is a coo on problem and that the Suite is no longer supported until they get it sorted.
Is there anyone out there who can help. I've posted on the My BB Xiaomi site but only got a response from one person whose experienced similar problems.

What exactly do you want to do with a suite?

I use a USB and then browse with Windows's file explorer to the phone and copy stuff over that way. Like it's an external HDD.

I also had the same problem.
What do you want to specifically do ? The only Things I can come up with is that you want either update your phone or share your PC's internet connection with the phone

Plug the phone in, via USB. After the noise, swipe down on the phone screen and tap on the USB option there and choose mass storage (might be another option there to try). By default it's only set to charge.
