Connection Problem

Hi all,

I'm having a problem with my connection lately, since the New York router failure. Surfing works fine for about a few hours at most and then it grinds to a halt. I then have to reboot the ADSL modem, and then I can surf again.

I doubt if it's a problem with the router as it's worked fine for 6 months. Is anyone else experiencing similiar problems?

Sounds like a router problem if rebooting solves the problem.

Hi there.

I got dumped four times last night. The connection does seem to get slower and slower and eventually just sits and waits indefinately for a response.

I will monitor tonight and see if it happens again.

I've been starting to see this too. Using a Netgear 814 router. Going to try the Telkom modem if it happens again.

I'm using an SMC router/modem, what are you using Myrrdin?

Glad to see I'm not allone, do you think it might have something to do with the area we are in (perhaps the exchange)? I'm in Melville

Also getting disconnected every few hours.

Modem (DG834) does not need a reset though, it just connects again and we continue.

However, this is wasting bandwidth as I'm trying to download a 50MB file with scp. I had to restart the process already twice - wasting a total of around 50MB.

I am using the marconi supplied by Telkom on a SMC hub, but have discovered something interesting. Read my post ADSL usage report.

Of course I don't look busy.....I did it right the first time.
