IS anybody else having this issue with constantly getting disconnected and additionally MSN and IRC dropping their connections? This has been going on since last friday and is getting really really annoying!

I had it here at work yesterday, but at home (same tower) I don't. The stronger connection kept dropping, funnily enough.

The annoying thing is that I have full signal so something is a bit amiss here.

very easy!
if you are very close to the tower your modem recieve strong signal from tower and drop dowm it's own power.
Tower does not recieve your signal as tower antenna diagramm is horisontal and it positioned high from the ground. So you can have very strong signal and have endless disconnections.

I understand what GRES is saying - mostly due to my [bad] experience with Bryanston-BS, in a nutshell the receiver unit on the BS is angled in such a way that when your UT sends to the BS, your UT's signal is not received by the BS receiver unit...crumbs that sounds more complicated that GRES' explanation...

It does not help to be too close to a WBS iBurst BS - due to the small number of overlapping base-stations, WBS try to increase the coverage of existing base-stations by adjusting the antenna array stuff upwards - the effect is you still get a signal from the BS, but your UT cannot get its sgnal to the BS...

I assume the bit GRES mentioned about the modem dropping its power/transmit level to be accurate, in which case it is presumably a firmware adjustable thing which WBS could fix/tweak if they really wanted to...

Presumably when the modem transmits at a higher power level, your UT to BS signal presumably bounces off stuff & eventually finds its way to the BS...?

Yeah I understand that myself, coming from an electrical engineering degree. Its just GRES's english was a bit well "/ wasnt to sure what he was aiming at :p

Either way its WBS's problem.

Ok lets see if I get it right..... what GRES is saying is if you are close to a BS and your modem recieves a very strong signal then your modem transmit power drops as it assumes the BS is close by, BUT if you are close and the BS antenna is high up it does not recieve your modem signal properly because (a) modem is sending out a weak signal, and (b) the BS antenna recieves best on the horizontal plain.... therefore not recieving a strong enough signal from the modem.............

There the above should confuse Ravolj even more. :p :D

This is more or less what I experienced, the tower a few hundred metres from me but much higher and many uplink failures.
Also, I have had better responses from a tower further away when I put the UTD antenne horizontally.

My signal could be good without an external ant as I am in a room upstairs and the BS is about 1km away. Always have 5 - 5 LEDs

It seems my disconnection problems have stopped. Good ol' beginning of the month issues. I wonder when we will have a month where this doesnt happen.
