There must have been a few steps required to purchase the add on bundle and the kid went though it all in his excitement to play the game
Kids do this all the time hence the parent or guardian is made responsible.

I know Apple allows refunds so not sure about their t’s and c’s

Thanks, I can see you clearly have or understand kids. I have no idea what the steps were as he launched the game and somehow was prompted or redirected to buy.

Considering the dlc is 50% off, your school fees are at least half of what it could have been.

*Runs to check purchase settings on ps4

No it seems I paid the full price so more likely really got shafted here, but if it saves other parents and people, I'm happy to create some awareness. as reactor_sa pointed out there is an option "request password to authorize purchases" which needs to be selected.

Try to contact your credit card issuer/band to dispute the purchase. Usually that works in cases of fraud but I'm not sure if they will do a charge back if you claim unauthorised purchase...
Might work.

Thanks, I did start that process too. one of the reasons for dispute is "unauthorized transaction" and in my opinion it was.

I don't agree with this, I do not study every platform but here's what I know having used Microsoft, Android, IOS and others with my Credit stored. before any of them are transacted, they require my password or fingerprint by default. PS clearly doesn't.

As for the tone of your message, I'm asking for help, refrain from answering if you feel like you need to be bashful.

Xbox doesn’t require password (that’s Microsoft)

And I’m far from bashful. If you Kent arsehole, I’ll accept that :)

Xbox doesn’t. Not sure about ps4 but I suspect it doesn’t when the details are stored
Nonsense.

The Xbox gives you three different options.

None, PIN or full password.

And you select these when you first set it up so if it's set to none it's because you selected that. The default is to ask for password.

Know your product.

Yet another person unable to take responsibility for his own actions. It's always someone else's fault. I feel sorry for the little boy. He's learning the same thing from his idiot dad.

My kid has no idea what my CC details are and has no access to it since my card was on me at the time. My CC details are stored on the platform and it clearly was transacted without me authorizing. I'm not the kind of parent who would give an 8 year old my CC details.

Def lesson learn't, I've now found the setting to change it to "request a password"
Yet you gave him access by leaving it on a product he uses. It does allow for using a password but you didn't know your product well enough. It's not the shop's fault here. Lesson learnt.

^This even before you get that far into payment you can set you profile to have a password, and your kids accounts can be set to not make purchases. even the credit I have loaded on my xbox needs a pin.
And PS store has similar setup
No offence OP but you did allow your child free roam to your profile and you left your credit card open without a password.
I am a Parent, and parents know dont leave **** lying around.

also i have a question if you are a Ps+ member why are you not bothering downloading the free games? even if its crap they still free.

Pro tip - delete your CC details and use psn vouchers when you need to purchase anything on the store.

That sounds like a good way to get your account banned. Do some googling before going through with it, if you can.

Passwords for purchases, I've got it on my phone, on Xbox I've got it to send me an authentication key I need to agree with on my phone, for my steam account there's no way to buy anything without password. You allowed your kid free reign on your account without a password or pin, my son doesn't even know the pin to his own xbox account.

What's the purpose of a CCV number if certain institutions can simply process a transaction without asking for it?

The problem is with some institutions storing this number and others using the recurring payment (that is supposed to be the same amount every month) system for non recurring payments. There needs to be better regulation from providers.

If you make enough noise online about a child accidentally purchasing expensive stuff on-line then they'll eventually refund you...but it'll probably be a lot of work.
