Dear 8ta (Telkom Mobile) Team,

I had / have some issues with the cancellation of my 8ta 3G internet contract which is the Internet 5 Promo package. I am on a two years contract which runs until the 16th of February 2014.

As I don't need 3G internet anymore as I installed ADSL at home, I would like to cancel this contract but 8ta makes this process very complicated and annoying.

I wanted to cancel the contract in October already but the guy at the Telkom store told me I could only do that 1 month before the contract runs out OR I would have to pay 800 Rand and they could do it right away. Sorry, but this is not only annoying but ridiculous. Why don't you let people cancel the contract earlier which would give you certainty to the financial planning and make your still existing customers happy? This makes no sense and is very annoying for customers. But never mind, that are obviously your terms and conditions and I have to accept this.

So, I came back to one of your stores one month before (on the 16th of January). And what does this Telkom guy tell me? "Sorry, but you can only cancel your contract 14 days before it runs out." Is this a bad joke? Who trains your employees? Everybody tells a different story and this lack of customer service really starts to piss me off. Yes, I want to cancel a contract but is it really necessary to put a spoke in your customer's wheel? But sure, I came back yesterday. And hooray, the contract could be cancelled BUT what really really can't be true now is that your employee tells me that the contract will run for another 21 working days (basically one month) until the cancellation is effective.

I am not willing to pay for another 15 days only because nobody at your stores really knows the cancellation process and understands what customer service is. I had to come back three times to cancel this contract and every time there is another problem. This is ridiculous. I cancel my debit order for Telkom with immediate effect and I am not going to pay more than the 16 days pro rata amount for February. I would appreciate it if you could confirm the cancellation of my debit order.

With disappointed regards,
Capek

Your story reads like mine, although my reason for cancellation was because of bad coverage. I had to resort to the good people here, like Telkom Mobile. After phoning and emailing since 27 December, I eventually got a call from a guy at retentions today. Got a confirmation email that my contract is now effectively cancelled. If it were not for the Telkom guys here on MyBB, I dunno if I ever would've come right. Thanks guys.

Telkom Mobile, do I really have to go into a store to cancel my expired contract?
