Hi guys,

So my Cell C contract has finally expired, the last month was was complete torture but it is finally over.

So my question is this. Who has best data rates and service?

I hardly make calls on my phone and mostly use data. Which could hardly ever be done on cell c network and had to use wifi whenever i could to do everything.

Bearing in mind:
Cell C has no signal at my house 90% of the time. so difficult to make or receive calls let alone use 3g data. lucky i have wifi at home.

Cell C has limited network connectivity at my work in the CBD. i can make calls fine but data use is okish. Used speed test app on my phone to test it and i average around 1mbps when i have H+ network. which is 10% of the time.

Using a tablet on Telkom mobile at home seems decent in terms of connectivity at home i get H+ network and around 2mbps but i have 10mb wifi so that doesn't matter.

At work i get H to 3G with an average of 1.5mbps. so not ideal.

there goes the two cheapest networks.

I have a co-worker on vodacom and asked him to test for me. At work he gets around 10mbps on average. Now i see what i been missing.

Can't test this at my house unless i go buy a vodacom sim.

No MTN users to test from.

So i need advice. Vodacom are very expensive i been told and i don't have to get 10mbps everywhere i go.

Who has the best deals out there right now? I am probably going to stay pre-paid for a while. don't feel like getting locked into contracts again after the bad experience with cell c over the last two years.

Thanks.

If you had a signal, Cell C has the best prepaid deals starting from 1st October.
50+150GB R999 valid for one year. Maybe irrelevant, but worth to mention. :)

I use Vodacom and Telkom. Telkom 3G gives me faster 3G speed than Vodacom LTE (which max 6Mbps). Unfortunately my router do not support Telkom LTE band, only Vodacom.

You can't get good advice unless you specify your usage. Perhaps you should look for Telkom SmartInternet contracts, by example 2GB R99 something (or R119 with LTE MiFi router). With higher usage SmartBroadband packages give better value starting from 5GB R199 with Huawei B315 USB/WiFi router. Even better deals are for the areas covered by LTE-Advance transmitters.

Thanks for the response. Yeah my usage will vary. While on cell c the most I managed to use in a month was 300 or so MBs.

Only reason for that was because of the signal issues.

So I am thinking I could easily reach 1GB.

For example. On WiFi this month I have used 4GB.

1GB alone is from tapatalk on mybb forums.

If I had more 3g access would probably have more time on the forums. YouTube is also a factor.

A big reason for needing 3g is that most mobile games are blocked on company network so can't play during lunch breaks.

I think the games only use a few MBs a month anyway though.
