If your heart is set on a iPhone and I cannot persuade you look at an Android system, then buy

Cmon, forget about this android nonsense, btw, that wasn't the question anyway. If you have the cash then just buy it. Cash is king. And I hate contracts.

If you have the cash and have your heart set on it, buy it. My brother had the choice when he upgraded his contract recently, so he took the "airtime only" option and imported a phone (I'm not going to say what :)). Worked out much cheaper than a 24 month contract would.

Cash buy + cell c 5 or 2 gig pre paid.
You can top up pre paid for calls.

Best deal for smartphones that don't call allot.

I went that route but with my DHD, don't know how the data works with iPhone, because I hear mixed results. My iPhone is on a Vodacom prepaid but I don't use much data on it as its a dev test phone.

Pity I can't just swap sim to test.

As the rest of the guys have said, if you have the cash then buy it but that isn't always easier said than done.

What, are you guys all crazy? The contracts are excellent for the iphone imo. Prepaid will rape you with a smartphone.

Also, if you get an iphone, then bloody well use it!! Dont just sit there with every interface turned off scared to even make a damn call. If you want that, then buy a ipod touch, and keep your old phone for calls.

Thats why I said go Cell C data pre-paid with a cash phone. I can call Skype for free and dont have to worry about extra charges. My 3G is always on so I can actually use the phone not worry about end of the month suprizes, like the horror stories you see about people with R2K+ accounts at the end of the month. In my case I went with the 60G package.

Thanks guys. I think cash-buy will be good for me.
Now question: which provider has good pre-paid data? Cell C?

Cash might be King but sometimes a contract deal is cheaper. Best would be to open up a seperate bank account (say Capitec), deposit the cash you would have paid and then get them to debit that account. This only works if the cash component is seriously more than the monthly cost + debit fee + connection fee.

Did this once before and got two cellphones from CellC for less than the cost of one. :)

Sorry but buying a BB cash is stoopid as in JuJu Woodworking Stoooopppid as your still got to pay for you BIS service, could get the phone, BIS & airtime for less but refer to my previous post.

I bought an iPhone 4 like new 2nd hand for R4700, considered that a good deal.

With the new Vodacom contract for R250 a month, I'm really tempted, that works out to about R6000, which is a good price for the iPhone 4 still. You get 110mb a month too as a throw-in but I will stick to Cell C!
