How easy is it to upgrade my data package from a 1 gig to a 3 gig if i am a contract subscriber. And what needs to be done.

Assumption: That the new tariffs come into place on existing contracts

yup, phone your SP and ask to be migrated to the bigger bundle. You'll get the new pricing.
