The Expropriation Bill was adopted by the National Assembly late on Wednesday evening after the opposition DA, EFF, IFP, Freedom Front Plus and African Christian Democratic Party put their objections on record.

The beginning of the end. The ANC could now just seize land as a populist move and follow the Zim route. They know it would drive educated people out and collapse the economy but it would probably allow them to consolidate power.

The ANC facnies the ZanuPF model of "Here is fk all for you...now be happy and jog on"
(That will apply to everyone, even CRAP crewers, that is unless you are a piggy at the trough)

“This bill will allow government to address the land question and bring dignity to our people,” said Ntobongwana.
Yet despite decades of ANC rule they've only pushed their people and the rest of this country deeper into the mud. **** off if you think this is about dignity or the ANC doing anything positive with it.

And they say we live in a "Democracy" :X3:
We do. A majority voted for the bill, a minority opposed it. That's democracy. It's a terrible system. As Winston Churchill reminded us
"Indeed it has been said that democracy is the worst form of Government except for all those other forms that have been tried from time to time.…"

I suppose whether the others are worse depends on how we measure. Singapore has been a de facto one party state for most its history since 1965, but is commonly viewed as a successful country. The dominant party made sure it stayed effectively a one party state by actively suppressing their opponents who they appear to have allowed to exist merely so that they could appear to be an actual democracy. They’re slowly starting to reform, but it’s still a country with an authoritarian state that suppresses personal freedom. Whether that constitutes a successful country depends on what people consider success. Some people think the Singapore way of blocking anyone else from getting into power and not allowing free speech is a better way to govern than a democracy with many parties having influence.

There's a bit of an over reaction from people who didn't read what's in the bill, but they should relax.

It is crap so should have been rejected, but we're not Zimbabwe yet.

Im happy with nil compensation for abandoned or state land.
Nil compensation for land bought for speculative reasons is the one worrying aspect. But I would like to see them proof or use that in court against a major developer. The con court will laugh at these idiots.

Well you just described the majority of poor south africans, if not all of them. There is going to be some selective listening in the coming weeks and people are going to interpret this to mean a free for all.

Cue in more land invasions.

We've always had land invasions. All it takes is one politician or criminal to sell shacks to the stupid and vulnerable and get them all excited. Those people don't use their own initiative.
