Hi @PBCool and @CoolChick My new order reference is #COOL-20221125-1069321.

I have taken up the black Friday deal. I am currently on Home-Connect and have now issued a cancellation request to Home-Connect and placed my new order with Coolideas as per ref above.

Home-Connect require a 1 month notice period as will all ISP's on Vumatel and anyone who will choose to migrate to this deal will have the same issue.. The agent at Coolideas insist I have to request an immediate release to qualify for the deal which seems a bit unreasonable. Is this really the case??
Can we not have a civil transition from one ISP to the other on a designated date so that I also have service until I migrate and I don't fall foul with my existing ISP.

Please let me know the way forward. Thanks

Cool Ideas Black Friday deal is a scam. They know for a fact all ISPs require 30 days notice and you cannot instantly cancel. They cannot sell fibre below cost price... its all a great marketing ploy.

Vodacom did the same with Black Friday this year. Sell Playstation 5's at R3000. However there is no stock.

It's not a scam it's an offering from Vumatel, orders need to be placed on the particular days to qualify for said offering. Hence the need for immediate release on a migration.

@PBCool
I'm migrating 2 lines. One is currently Openserve, so no issues there. Received confirmation via email that the (previously installed) Vumatel line has been (re-)activated.

The other is a Vumatel line with another ISP. If I request immediate release, does it mean no Internet access until you activate? Assume I can do this on Monday morning then?

Yeap no access between a line being released and activated, so if on Monday the downtime would be between release and reactivation.

It is really unfortunate that the special is structured like this. I understand that it's conditions that come from Vumatel, but it just encourages switching ISPs. I'm switching away from Cool Ideas because of this. Despite having been a happy customer for 4 years, I'm getting three months free (minus 1 for the switching period), and then paying about half of what I would pay by staying, so it's a no-brainer to switch.

Yep same for me. I'm moving from Afrihost (no issues) to Cool Ideas (sister company) so I guess they keep my revenue, but still. Annoying for me, annoying for them.

Well I will be if Afrihost ever releases my line (logged it 8am this morning), still waiting. Hope I don't get caught in limbo where Afrihost doesn't release in time, and thus Cool Ideas won't honour the special - I hope not, but lets see and cross that bridge when I come to it.

So far the service on both sides has been good - it's just a waiting game (not sure if that's Afrihost's issue or Vumatel's).

Good Day,

Thanks we have all the info from our end I will keep pushing Vuma for the release for today as the order has to be placed today.

Kind Regards,
Cool Ideas

So I could definitely end up in internet limbo where:

a) I've asked Afrihost to release the line
b) I've asked Cool Ideas to onboard it and they can't
c) I miss the promo
d) Afrihost scores the cancellation month (as I've paid for it) and I have to pay a reconnection fee?

Friends at other ISPs requested at the same time, got released almost instantly and are being onboarded...

Yikes!

That is ultimately I think the biggest unintended problem with this promotion. It will encourage huge subscriber churn.

I am also cancelling with Cool Ideas and moving to a different ISP.

Good luck, apparently if you don't get the release done today - then you won't qualify for the special.

Will see.

I'm getting a very different story from Vox, that so long as all is signed & sealed by the end of today, then its all good if it only comes active in a month or so

Yeah they told me the same, but their t's and c's are atrocious. You auto get signed up to a 12 month rolling renewal every year (and if you exit that renewal they probably want clawback again).

I have taken it up with them they confirm its released so the issue is definately with Vuma

I am chatting to a rep there to get the line released

Kind Regards,

^ Got this from Cool Ideas - so looks like Afrihost released and then Vuma is dragging it's feet to approve that release.

Which means Cool Ideas can't onboard me.

So lets see if my Black Friday promotion get honoured or not...

Hi there, unfortunately we have no control over other ISP's releasing the line. This is purely between Vumatel and the ISP who has current control. Once the current ISP releases the line, only then can we 'take over" your line so to speak.

It's a portal thing, if we are unable to place an order due to systems issues. Vumatel will have to honour the deal anyway.

Can you provide me with your ref so I can try and chase this up for you.

I have received confirmation from my ISP that they have applied to Vumatel for the line release but Vumatel have not actioned this as yet. Will I still qualify for the deal if Vumatel does not release the line timeously?? I have had to pay for December plus a R3k cancellation so hoping this all works out.
