So update from Vumatel on the double promotion is that only 10Mbps packages will be upgraded tomorrow, then in theory if that goes to plan they will do the rest on Thursday.

does this mean if i've already been experiencing an upgrade, it'll be demoted? :)

just crossing my t's, dotting my i's ;)
Going to repeat myself. These are the i's and t's. Please help us to keep the noise levels low, so that @PBCool and I can deal with real issues. If you create noise about the free upgrades we will be forced to put you on ignore, and let you use the normal channels. Sorry if this seems fascist, but we have to manage it somehow. It's fine to post and discuss, but any direct @mention's or direct replies to posts by me and PBCool causes alerts on our forum watch notifications and doesn't help. Please help save us from information overload during this time.

Keep in mind the find print:

  • The upgraded speeds are delivered to your router and it’s hard-wired Ethernet ports – we cannot guarantee that you will see the upgraded speeds on your Wi-Fi devices. Wi-Fi, as a shared medium is also highly susceptible to interference from neighbours which can reduce throughput.
  • FNO's are offering the line upgrade for free, but it costs us money to carry those additional bits and bytes. The upgraded speeds are offered as “best effort” and we will not guarantee the higher speeds under any circumstances or entertain support queries around the free higher speeds.
  • The speed upgrades are under the FNO's control, not Cool Ideas’. We therefore request that you don’t email us or call us to ask, “has it happened yet?” on the 1st of April. We will post announcements on our announcements and social media pages to keep everyone updated. There might be teething issues during the process as this is a massive undertaking.

nah, not 'fascist' at all.. i appreciate the degree to which providing support requires efficiency at all levels.. i was expressing gratitude earlier for the upgrade, and perhaps was just wondering if it was by mistake that it was activated. trust me, i never comment on this thread, i just read and learn (your services have been impeccable tbh).

We should be fine, we've been prepping over the last few days, hence some of the emergency maintenance announcements too.

I don't expect a huge spike in international traffic, unless everyone "excercises" their lines to CoreIX to see what they can get. So don't do that, it's just silly, considering WACS is still down, and we are using alternative paths, some accelerated, some not.

If people go absolutely nuts we will have to implement some sort of per-connection queueing for international traffic, so be a friendly neighbor to your fellow CISP users.

This is not a "free for all", it's intended to assist with local usage and streaming and provide relief for families doing multiple things at the same time. If it's abused then we will simply rollback, or implement measures to contain abuse.

I rate if there is abuse then a rollback would be better so that people go back to what they are paying for ?

Could you please report to whomever? Slightly a bit worried about tomorrow's WFH with these latencies and speeds https://www.speedtest.net/result/9216197806.png

Might just go completely nuts :p
Will have gone through the process already. Please see if using trcprx01.cisp.co.za:3128 as a HTTP/HTTPS proxy helps your situation at all as a band-aid.

Caveat: it might break speedtest.net due to how they do their Websocket stuff, but try speedtest.co.za or other options.

Edit: whilst 80ms local latency is pretty bad, it's not the worst. The loss etc seems to be more problematic.

Edit: the things we do to work past crippled FNO's :cautious:
