Thanks Paul, it was the default one for pfSense to monitor and pfsense seems to bounce the gateway if packet loss to that IP is high.

I've changed it to 154.0.0.1. Will that be better?
That will also drop a % of ICMP, basically most or all routers will do so.

If you want to track using ICMP then go to https://c.speedtest.net/speedtest-servers-static.php select one and use it. The servers are typically X86 and are less likely to be loaded and drop ICMP packets such as other networking kit. You don't just need to use them for speedtest but also for latency. Not perfectly accurate but mostly accurate.

For cape town, ping trcprx01.cisp.co.za
For joburg, pinger.cisp.co.za should do fine.

These are both hosts that should be fine with ICMP.

Surely torrents aren't the best measure....
Actually they are.

Which Fibre provider?
Frogfoot, Welgevonden Stellenbosch.
I logged Ticket #: COOL-20200409-413396 for it if you wanna follow it up some time. Nothing serious, I mean it is faster than it was. But if I can be sure it will handle 200mbps I might consider upgrading in future.

No changes from our side but glad it's back to normal.

Not sure what to test but I am having intermittent packet lose and bad latency while playing Ps4 games as well as streaming Spotify. What can I do to check this, it does seem to happen more often in the late afternoon and evenings. I was playing last night on PS4 with 4 other South Africans (mostly JHB) and I was the only one having issues, this was around 11pm to 1am, so traffic should not be that heavy.

I am on Vuma trenched, Durban, Moseley area.

@TheRoDent I raised the ticket for my abysmal latency while gaming and internet browsing, Buh-Rein, Kraaifontein. Octotel trenched:

Here's a test on PingPlotter completed just now, my usual ping is between 135 ms and 145 ms but it is up to 220 ms now:

Yes, this is showing when you don't have an issue, but it's only been 5 pings.
Leave it running a while and see if your router can handle it etc.

P.S These tests are happening over a cabled device yes? Just want to cross wireless interference off the list of possible issues

p.p.s That IP (54.156.166.78) is in the States, so a ping of 220 is perfectly normal

I always test over a cabled device, also had it running for half an hour last night and it was much the same. Kept hovering between 220 ms and 240 ms
