Most connection drops are FNO or line related, COD at the moment is a bit tricky reliant on Mweb/Optinets network. We have de-peered them at JINX which seems to be most of underlying problem. But some other issues seem to persist with COD specifically, which we are working through.

That being said we are here, and here to assist with any issues :)

Realistically how many line drops should one go through before reporting it?

General.
Red/orange light on router

My CPE has the Blue steady Power Light On and the FX and LAN1 orange lights that flicker as data passes.

Router just show Power On light, and all the connected LAN ports show green lights. Mikrotik router.

@PBCool how long does a line speed upgrade usually take on the FrogFoot network?

On Wednesday morning we got a reply from Cisp saying the upgrade has been requested from FrogFoot.

No rush from my side but just want to check if its normal for us to still be waiting for it :)

PM me your ref or account details, it's usually quite quick.

@PBCool @TheRoDent How do I go about requesting a line upgrade? We have enjoyed the free 200mbps bump so want to stay on it end of the month. This is on the frogfoot network

Google has been having some issues of late with their local peer, so more than likely related.

Hey guys,

so i will be moving back to a place where I had fibre, and while i was there I had Cool Ideas as my ISP, while it wasn't the absolute best (had random drops, etc) I have to give them some slack as it was after the whole DDOS attacks. So, since I'm moving back there I just wanted to know how CI is now? still under attack? going through this thread I see some people still have connection drops and some have issues playing COD (this is important to me :D)

To be honest I have cancelled with them because for some applications that requires a persistent connection like games or some work related applications their service is a little unreliable. While overall uptime and support is great I often experience very small blips of loss of connection. It's never enough to log a call about but it is enough to drop a Teams call, disconnect one from a game or cause remote sessions to reconnect.

I invested a substantial amount in my networking equipment to guarantee a reliable internal network and internet access for both work and play.

Blizzard and more specifically Call of Duty (as this is what I play mostly) seems to also be a recurring theme with them. Frequently I am disconnected from games while all my friends whom I am chatting to on Discord are unaffected. It seems that at least for COD Cool Ideas is just not the place to be.

As a consumer I feel the need to go else where in the hope for a more reliable connection.

I respect my issues may seem minor to some and maybe some are happy with the above however I guess my demand for stability is quite high and so feel I would prefer to try somewhere else for now.

Depends a lot on FNO and area as well, been with Cool Ideas almost 2 years now and the only down time/bad experience was when they had their attacks. There have been minor small issues here and there but both PBCool and Rodent have gone the extra mile to get things fixed. Other than WebSquad maybe, what ISP can you approach after hours to ask whether some game traffic can be rerouted to a certain Brazil sever and you get a reply on a Saturday morning that its done.

I know people on other networks and the hell they going through, and not to mention most of them love the quote "we cannot guarantee international ping or speed". Vox for like a month picked up all of Cape Towns traffic in JHB and sent it via East Coast and their support were like oh well 200ms to London is still very good.

We pay R5k odd to RSAWEB for Business grade fibre 50/50 and if i compare my 50/5 residential line its day and night i prefer working from home since my internet actually works.

I have also never had issues with CoD Warzone so it also is area specific - not that i play it a hell of a lot but when i did want to play it worked.

Fair point, well one has to start changing variable to see what affects the outcome. In this case there are no alternative fiber providers (not sure what FNO stands for) and I am not moving :p. Therefore that leaves with me being able to change my ISP without a great deal of hassle. As you state... this may not be a resolution.

Only counter argument to the provider and area, is people who live close by and on the same provider seem unaffected on their ISP's. Secondly often when I pop onto MyBB and ask about issues with COD there often are other reports in this thread. This leads me to believe there is an element of Cool Ideas in the mix.

I guess I'll have to see.

Myself and various others have complained about CISP's KZN backbones to JHB dropping on many occasions, regardless of who your fibre provider is.

It's been happening for months now and I'm not sure if they are willing to do anything about it. My friend also in KZN on Afrihost hasn't had any of these issues and I get very frustrated dropping connection in the middle of a game.

Most people probably wouldn't notice it if they were just using streaming services but real-time applications like online gaming and VOIP require a stable and persistent internet connection, and dropping connection for 1-2 minutes is more than enough time to kick you out of the session.

I have been with CISP for over a year and in general they have been really good all round since the DDOS problems stopped which is why I don't usually criticise their service, but the KZN issue has gone on for months now without any resolution.

They have previously acknowledged the issue and said that they couldn't do anything about it because it was DFA's backbone that was unstable, which makes me wonder which backbone Afrihost is using as they hardly seem to have issues in KZN.

I'm not trying to bash Cool Ideas or anything. Like I said their service has otherwise been great but I would just like to know if they can fix the problem, because if they can't I might have to look elsewhere since having a stable connection to gaming servers and Discord is very important to me.

Sorry to hear that, have you raised this with me at all?
