Hi,

Yeah HW Nat is on and Qos is off.

CPU runs high 90's but now slapped to 100%

My Tik reached a max of 46% for a moment during a 1Gbps speed test versus your 96-100%
And Tik was only using 39.6MB versus yours 171MB

See the RB910 test specs.

Routing 25 ip filter rules could see speeds drop to 689Mbps
It is only a single core (no threading) with 64MB router.

I am no expert, but you might want to get a router with more power to future proof yourself a bit.

These Ubiquity rouers are also not bad.

No need to upgrade from the AC68U - it's a very capable router. Depending on the revision, dual core 1GHz CPU, 256MB RAM, 3x3 MIMO wireless - its most likely firmware or settings causing the CPU to saturate - as would our MikroTiks without any fasttrack rules set up.

A friend came over and we tested with his ASUS RT-AC68U. On default settings and no Merlin software it runs 900+Mbps.

I have the DSL version of the AC68U running Merlin firmware. I know the DSL version is older than the RT version, so it might just be that the RT version has slight better CPU, but it might just be that the custom scripts was the reason for drop in the speed.

@TheRoDent I’m in lone hill and cool ideas seems to be down. Called the contact Centre and after 15 mins of faffing around I’m told that there is a known issue with MTN. I can’t find anything online that confirms this. The neighbors are online with various ISPs including MTN. Is someone working on this?
No traffic on our NNI, we are investigating.

Edit: Some of the LNS services died so it should start restoring, let me know.

Which fibre network, one of the paths to KZN is down but the alternative path is fine.

Ahh, yeah could be related to Merlin fw. Doubt the CPU would make that big of a difference, seems DSL version still had an 800MHz dual core chip. You gonna try flashing stock firmware?

I'm bought his RT from him, which he had spare and I did a reset on the DSL version to be used as Mesh router. I installed Merlin on the RT and the speeds is still +-900Mbps... I must still install Diversion to see if it will hamper the speeds.

So all seems fine at the moment.

Lots of lost carrier errors, one of the NLDs to KZN was down but everything was running on the alternative path. At the moment MFN backhauls to KZN, So it will be logged with them.

Sorry missed this, typically no the line would need to be provisioned to our network. Who is the fibre provider?

But once provisioned yes so long as your router is compatible.
