Octotel technician was here again and he respliced the fibre at the internal box. Looked promising but the line started dropping again 20 minutes after they left. Also when my line isn't down, my upload speed has gone to the dogs and I have packet loss constantly.

If you in West Beach like I recall I know someone there having a very terrible Octotel experience too

Not that I'm aware of. It's apparently being looked at by a network engineer now.

I just wish I had another option. I've already submitted interest for Openserve and Vuma to expand to the area, but I doubt that will happen. The only other option is Telkom ADSL and I don't have the patience to deal with them again.

@PBCool and @TheRoDent, since you guys are 'part' of Afrihost. Could you not tap into their YouTube Cache in Cape Town? This might alleviate some strain on your NLD and Cluster in JHB.

We can but there isn't any capacity issues with our cluster at the moment.

I was sitting watching Youtube whole night last night since my friend couldn't play Dota

What I did notice is that after disconnecting from TERRAR3/10 (same device) and connecting to TERRAR6, YouTube was definitely quicker and most things loaded faster. I have not had a days issue since the initial teething problems on Octotel and have no complaints with them.

15-20ms is pretty insignificant for this kinda stuff.

So far, on two different devices, Android mobile phone and Windows notebook.

They called vroetfoot for a reason they always have issues

@PBCool, I opened a ticket but not really getting anywhere, but basically in the management console under Services I still see my Octotel line for my previous residence listed as Active:



Is there no way to remove this?

It's confusing because it allows me to select this service to make changes, e.g. line upgrade, cancellations, etc.

I'm also still experiencing awful playback on many YT videos, though OpenServe in CPT. I had a look into it and the browser seems to be receiving video extremely slowly ( < 300 kbps ) from rr2---sn-jpn215-woce.googlevideo.com, on my side this resolves to 154.0.9.173, which apparently is owned by CISP.
The transfer rate from this host is so slow that the buffer just runs out continuously.

I get a download speed of about 400-500mbps on the same device from fast.com.

Could there be some issue with whatever CISP infra is in the way?

Is anyone with a 1Gbps/250Mbps Vumatel trenched line actually getting 250Mbps upload? Probably around July or August last year, I was getting 250Mbps but then it was reduced back to 200Mbps maybe around October. I have created a support ticket (#COOL-20230101-1099059) and CISP support has responded multiple times that the issue was logged with Vumatel and that has been fixed but there hasn't been any change. I was just wondering if it is just me or if everyone on this line profile affected.

Mine was finally just upgraded back to 250Mbps upload again, check yours.
