Cool Ideas Fibre ISP – Feedback Thread 6

Anyone else experiencing extremely high latency to international sites?

Edit: I changed my DNS to 8.8.8.8 and that seems to have resolved the issue for me

What DNS were you using before?

Default, auto provided by Cool Ideas.

I've now switched to Quad 9 (for no particular reason ) and that's stable too.

Has IPv6 been rolled out for CI customers yet? (just curious 'cos when I adjusted my DNS setting I noticed that I still have it switched off in my router settings)

Only on a select few FNO's in JHB , and is currently still in the testing phase. From what I can recall, you are on Frogfoot in CPT, so unfortunately not available for you as yet.

I have a static over aerial(Vuma) does that mean I get a static IPV6 as well?
Unfortunately not as yet, you would need to enable a V6 DHCP client on your router to get a delegated V6 prefix to use . I believe it would be Static once officially rolled out.

NLD Maintenance: JHB <<>> CPT

Hi All, Please take note of the following:
Liquid Telecoms has scheduled the following planned maintenance:

Start Date & Time: 12/10/2024 @ 08:00am
End Date & Time: 12/10/2024 @ 15:00pm
Duration: 7 hours
Affected Area/s: Liquid NLD path between Johannesburg and Cape Town

Cape Town- Maintenance.

Hi all. Please take note of the following Maintenance Sunday.

Coolideas has scheduled the following planned maintenance:

Start Date & Time: 13/10/2024@ 14:00pm
End Date & Time: 13/10/2024@ 18:00pm
Duration: 4 Hours
Affected Area/s: Cape Town & International Traffic.

Impact:
Certain: Minor latency increase and impacted speeds for Cape Town customers over international paths.
Potential: Possible downtime for Cape Town customers. Maintenance within an active Cabinet always runs the risk of potential power trips and/or disconnection of Fibre Optics & Routers, impacting some or all customers in Cape Town.

Reason: Hardware installations & Upgrades.
