Cool Ideas Fibre ISP – Feedback Thread 6

Hi there, yes WACS and Equiano is balancing for all regions for a few weeks now,
This might just be a latency descrepency on one of the terrestrial paths .
I will check internally
Oh alright, all makes sense now. Latency is very inconsistent the past week or so. Sometimes elevated then normal. For example I was getting a constant 161-162 ms all week last week on the MTRs. Now it’s a constant 167-170ms and sometimes higher. Heck even managed to get a 228ms constantly to NY from Pretoria last week, now it’s back to 233-236ms

Yeah as mentioned in pms, 8ms in the scheme of things is insignificant, also this is how the Internet works :)

Yeah just found it very interesting. For that whole week everything was almost 10ms lower. Thought there was some change in the routing or something. Even Marvel rivals got as low as 213 constantly to Northern Virginia now it’s 222 to 225 again. Short lived little bit of lower lat.

Equiano max latency currently to London is 140-142ms and WACs is 140ms

Which is pretty normal.

Do you have a comparable trace?

Hi there, I am moving to a new property in a few months, towards end of April. The new property already has Openserve fibre in place, so I just want to find out what the best way would be to cancel my current Fibre and enable the new property's existing fibre
on my account with CISP?

I am currently with Vuma.

HI there, we require a Calendars Months notice, so if you cancel Vuma before the end of this month, the cancellation wil be end of March, thus if you are planning to only move in end of April, you can cancel any time in March.

Once you have the Proof of address, you can place the order for the new Address via our website. I believe on step 4 of the application, you have the option to sign into your existing account.

If you require an installation, I recommend placing the order for the openserve package at least 2 weeks before you would like it to be activated.
If there is an installation already, typically it only takes a few days to activate the link, provided all the information is supplied(Such as Bnumber, and photos of installation) and no hiccups.

There is also a Relocation tab on your client portal, which you can also have a look at to assist in this matter.

Please let me know if you need any additional info?

Awesome thanks. Yeah installation is done so I would be able to provide photos and Bnumber.

I just want to coordinate it so that I am not left without internet access or having to pay double fees. Should I cancel at the end of March if I want subscription of the Vuma line to end at end of April?

Or do I cancel/give notice on the 28th so that last debit order will go off at the end of March, but in theory still have access for the month of April

Not neccecarily end of March, but anytime after 1 March before the 31st of March would result in a cancellation end of April.

So I would recommend going on the Client portal after 1 March, using the Relocation section to input the new address details & Move in date, then our team will action this accordingly, and provide you with the neccecary Next steps :)

@CoolEscalator @TheRoDent any reason CI doesn't have a speedtest.net server anymore? I usually use it to test and max out the line but can't seem to find it. Using Cell C and Afrihost for now, but would prefer an on network server.

Thanks.

There's a new requirement for IPv6 on all speedtest servers since the last update, which we're busy sorting out. They'll be back soon.

@TheRoDent Will you be providing IPv6 to business customers on DFA anytime soon? Our previous ISP supported IPv6 and we were promised IPv6 by the CISP sales person in 2020. However, when we switched, we were told that it was a mistake and it wasn't supported.

Hi there, I have asked about this internally for you, But at the moment V6 is still in Beta, available on a select few FNO's in JHB, and not officially launched as yet. We don't have an ETA unfortunately.

We're happy to turnup v6 for you but then it would be in a testing environment, so if you are happy to do so we dont mind.

@PBCool @CoolEscalator Today there seems to be some packet loss on international traffic.

It lasts for about a minute or so then clears up for a while, but noticed it a few times today.

Not a big deal, but just posting for awareness :)

Hi, I'm just curious about this.

Since Valorant servers released in ZA, I had 25-30 ping on Cape Town servers. Sometimes 35 or so but never more than 10ms difference. Since a couple months ago(can't remember when, but late November or December last year) my ping is doubled. I average 50 to 60 ping constantly. Sometimes it drops to 40, but I'm curious why my ping has pretty much doubled.
I have the same ping from Durban to CT as someone from Reunion Island by comparison.

Is there any reason for this?
