Cool Ideas Fibre ISP – Feedback Thread 6

MS' CDN and network has been an ongoing challenge since the day they launched their own network. Its usually a temporary thing.
Is there anyway I can bypass the local CDN? I have tried a VPN to other countries and i get similar speeds.

Might just be a temp thing on MS' network. How long has it been going on for?

Gosh, its been like this for years, I've just accepted it will take days to get anything from them.
I get mixed results, sometimes line speed. Sometimes poor. Have you tried the netsh command as yet?

I did recently build a new system, so there should be no issues anything networking wise. but now that ive been thinking about it, its quite bad on reddit. most content on there loads slowly. as soon as im on vodacom 5g its 100%. pc is on cable, full line speed. any other suggestions?

1. Resetting TCP/IP:
Open Command Prompt as an administrator.
Type netsh int ip reset and press Enter.
Optionally, you can specify a log file path, like this: netsh int ip reset c:\resetlog.txt.
Restart your computer for the changes to take effect.

Yeah 5G mitigates some loss, so you often get mixed feedback.

I’ve had no internet connectivity since around 19:30 last night. Woke up this morning and still nothing. Vuma Reach, Belhar, Cape Town.

Hi apologies for the delayed response, please note Vumatel had an outage in the area but it has been resolved, are you still having issue with the connection?

Hi all,
Assuming that there's an issue on Openserve re int traffic.
Local pings are terrible and speeds ok ish but int is a disaster.

Can anyone confirm or is this WACS repair?

You said local pings are terrible which would suggest fibre network problems. WACS is fully repaired

Mine also tanked earlier (fibre, openserve). It's been bad lately, but went completely haywire the past few hours.

On Vumatel and Reddit is incredibly slow, has been for weeks. Rebooting ONT and router doesn’t fix anything.

If I switch to my Telkom Openserve connection it’s perfect.

Any idea what might be happening?

@PBCool once again experiencing slowness and websites (Twitch, Wowhead) failing to load. Needed to reload twice to fully load. Openserve CPT

I have a question for all you networking gurus.

I am trying to play minecraft on a server based in the UK. When playing directly. The world takes forever to load in and it is almost unplayable. Ping however is low, 141, with minimal packet loss.

When playing over VPN: q2.cisp.co.za

Ping is worse, 150 or so. But everything is playable. It is like the network just flaps as soon as it needs to actually transfer data when not using the VPN. Here are two MTR traces of the routes taken. This problem has been getting worse and worse over the last few weeks. Other games that uses CDN networks, like Fallout 76 ( AWS ) seems to be much less affected. I have ordered a new router because the loss on the first hop I see over time should not be there.

Any ideas of further debugging or tracing I can attempt to do?

I have been fiddling some more. And I may be onto something. What is the correct MTU setting for Vumatel and CISP together?

My problems started when I upgraded Ubuntu to 25.04. For a new motherboard that needs support. The network config wizard ( which I have never used ) has an override setting for MTU, in Linux itself. This made me curious as to my router's setting, which was set to 1472. No idea why I would have used that. It has been 3 years since I set that router up. Changing it to 1500 as the router recommends, had no positive effect. In fact making things worse. A google of this forum, showed a 2018 post with people using 1492, which I subsequently used. And now things are feeling normal.

Now this could simply be a glitch in matrix with international suddenly fast, or it may be a problem with something else in the configuration.

Any ideas would be much appreciated.

Thanks!

If you are on aerial which I presume you are. Then 1492 or lower should be fine, but it should be an auto thing.
