Cool Ideas Fibre ISP – Feedback Thread 6

Perhaps I missed the memo or so, but is there a reason why EU latency is higher than normal of late? From CPT to London its usually 150 or so, but its consistently 20+ ms higher.

We on an alternative path since the main one has a problem with some packet loss i believe. They working on getting it resolved and prefer stability and performance for a small loss in latency

Ah ok, when did this issue start?
 
I'm going to getting Octotel to come in an move my fibre, I want the fibre termination point on an outside weatherproof wallbox and the ONT (Dasan H665 ONT) inside the house on the other side of that wall. I think the supplied flylead is too short, so I'd like to pre run a longer flylead in the conduit so it's already in place when they get here (and make it a quicker job with less downtime).

Just want to make sure I'm getting the right one, looks like it's an SC-LC SM cable like this one: https://www.amazon.co.za/protection-universally-compatible-three-ring-inspected/dp/B0CNTRCQJJ

Would this one work? I'll obviously test it before we move the fibre but want to know before I buy it.

HI there, unfortunately I can't say for sure, as we do not typically advise you to do this yourself.
My only reccomendation would be to contact our Connects department to enquire about an ONT move Request in order for Octotel to move the ONT for you.

We are keeping both, small one probably become DR for the bigger one. Wow nice, Will you be moving the caches that you have to the new one then or will everything network wise remain the same ?

I am going to get them to move it, I just want to pre run the flylead between the ONT and the termination point. It's just an off the shelf cable.
 
Seeing disconnects again. Friend on Openserve nowhere near me is experiencing issues right now too

From my side, it looks like we're back on WIOCC/WACS @ 140ms - wonder if the packet loss issue has been resolved

Yeah, noticed earlier that my upload was terrible to our work server in USA. got like 1Mbps, where I usually get around 30Mbps

Last time I had to get Octotel to move my ONT (about 2 years ago) it took them 3 weeks to get somebody out here. This time I got a call the same day I opened the ticket and they're coming tomorrow morning - caught me a bit off guard :laugh:
 
Wanted to ask, with you moving the networks around.
For a brief period my ping to the middle east was back down to 120. and today I noticed it was back to 230.
Is this something happening on your side or is it poor fluke.
As I would prefer the lower middle east ping.

Hi, middle east is all AWS. Not relative to our network changes :)
