its not just one, they follow each other sometimes and hold up an entire lane.

when they prefer to stop on the corner of a traffic light intersection when its green, i tend to call them much worse than assholes, the synonym for malema comes to mind.

to turn you wait 10minutes in a lane because taxis(not only but mostly) are pushing in at the front, then we should let in more because "aw shame". i have better things to do with my time.

Yep, that is exactly what they do at the N1N onramp at William Nicol. **** to all (bad) taxi drivers!!!

In my experience, most taxi drivers are entitled axxholes, especially when they don't get their way. I don't go looking for trouble with them but I will stand my ground.

And when they stop halfway in an intersection to hoot for passengers and block you?

When one of them kills 3 school girls and then leaves the scene?

When one of them speeds down the wrong side of the road and knocks someone over? Notice how the car traveling in the correct lane and direction stops to let the pedestrian cross.

Fark that... deal with this carp all the time, taxis coming down wrong way on side roads to get on to jan smuts which just causes endless traffic problems on jan smuts cos those turning off into the now 6-10 queue long taxi blocked roads all wanting to 'get let in' can't go anywhere and intersections get locked up... but hey, just let them in... nah uh... luckily many with big bullbars clear those roads for the rest of us in no time... letting them in just promotes driving down wrong side of road and it becomes the norm

But why should I let them in front of me? Because they need to fill a quota? Why can't they follow the rules and common courtesy like everyone else?
Do you know every time they use the red bus lane they cause an extra red light here in CT, inconveniencing hundreds of people. E.g. the section from Lagoon beach -> Milnerton Flea Market often has traffic because they jump there as they come from Koeberg road. If the taxi drives there by end of bus lane, even if they don't stop at the red bus light, they will cause a red light for all cars so the bus gets green. Now do this every ~minute, when buses are supposed to be every 4-10 min at peak.
So now those taxis have caused an inconvenience for a substantial number of people, way more than that one taxi is ferrying.

The cops waiting at the end there to deal with taxis helps traffic flow substantially.

Again, why should I care about giving the taxi right of way?

This is the best policy IMO, I used to get annoyed and lean on my hooter with zero response apart from raising my own blood pressure. Taxis are gonna taxi, nothing we do is going to change it and getting upset about it is pointless...

Everyone has to follow the rules of the road in order for the system to work. The majority of the rules of the road are actually enforced by other drivers who hoot at other drivers as the traffic police cannot be everywhere.
Thus when people like you start making exceptions for taxis for the minor stuff, then there is nothing preventing them from breaking more rules of the road.
