A police constable opened fire in a police station on Friday morning, fatally wounding one person, after which he went home and shot himself.

The shooting took place at the Ashton police station at 07:50. At this point very little information regarding the shooting available.

Provincial police spokesperson, Colonel Andre Traut, confirmed the shooting and said the investigation is being handled by the Independent Police Investigation Directorate (IPID).

"It is alleged that the 34-year old constable, who was on duty at the time of the incident, opened fire at three members of the public, fatally wounding a male in his thirties.

"The second male, also in his thirties, was wounded and admitted to hospital, while the third male escaped unharmed.

This is the bit that I do not understand...

A police constable opened fire in a police station on Friday morning, fatally wounding one person, after which he went home and shot himself.

Was he alone at the station? Why wasn't he detained?

many blanks to fill first. Where the three in there to report a crime or for help? or did they also come for weapons and the cop had to defend himself?

They were there about a future crime of which they were unaware.

That's all we know - except that the cop went home for his last meal. Rice Crispies, perhaps?
