"It is alleged that the 34-year old constable, who was on duty at the time of the incident, opened fire at three members of the public, fatally wounding a male in his thirties.
Got it.
The maximum SAPS recruitment age is 29. So he may would have had a minimum of 5 years service.

I'm not entirely clear on attempted murder by police officers at a police station. Do you go back inside and report it or? It feels like some kind of infinite loop, stack overflow type exception.

Seems like there is some sort of garbage collector that takes care of it once its no longer a worker.

Lekker place this SAPS, don't even pay for the logistics of your own suicide.

Well, actually:

He ensured that the victims would be as close to a police station as possible, for further assistance.

He ensured that his pets would have fresh meat for hours and hours.

He also ensured that his colleagues would only have to clean the visitors area of the police station, not the main floor space with all its vulnerable open files.

I laughed way to hard for some of the comments.

This thread reminded me of something that happened many years ago. I used the word guy too much. So change person 1: Crazy Dude/Bug Eyed Dude and person 2: Guy for the Bystander.

Years ago in the 90s, I was in a train going to Mitchell's Plain, when this "bug-eyed" dude start bugging out, he started looking for trouble, at first I wanted to ask what was his problem, but decided not to say anything. Another guy decided to tell him off (cannot recall exactly what he (crazy dude) did to the Guy) anyway he (crazy dude) pulls out a gun, point it at the Guy and then proceeds to put the gun in the Guy's mouth. The aunties/taanies started to panic and were shouting and trying to go to another carriage and then the Crazy Dude with the gun pulls out his badge and tell them they should not worry as he is a policeman. He looked crazy enough to have pulled the trigger. I think the aunties shouting jolted him out of his flashback or whatever he was going through. The other guy had a lucky break.

OK, you've convinced me.

How? I agreed with @ShaunSA that killing customers is extreme. Which was a response to @3WA . @Moosedrool failed to see that.

But you do you.

I didn't say kill all the customers. Only one. And since this approach involves killing yourself as well, you can only use it once.

Once word spreads, the customers will get the message that they must behave.

You were already the national commissioner at that age?
Five years in the very first rank (at the very minimum). He was not a high flyer, or the sharpest tool in the shed. Why are you so ready to insult others on his behalf? Do you know something about him that we don't?

Who did I insult? On the contrary you seem to know a great deal about the guy than I do.

How long does it take before constables are promoted?
