I would rather vote for ANC than this COPE thing. At least the "new" ANC could stand up against Mbeki. If COPE wins, it'll the same people who couldn't deliver in the past 14 years. They were voted out in Polokwane, but because they are power hungry, they decided to form another party. But it will be interesting if they become the opposition party after the elections.

The 'new' anc is a bunch of thugs.

LOL, convenient that stance now for the ANC, who are forever blameless and unaccountable to the nth degree, to now all of a sudden now lay the blame for the failures of the past 14 years on specific individuals, when as they have protested on many occasions, that all decisions made within the party are a collective!!!!

You and your brainwashed brothers are funny bru!

No marine your wrong, they broke away because the ANC forced out Mbeki disbanded the scorpions the head of the ANC is a criminal, they keep saying they will kill for zuma.

You do your thing and don't vote cope and when this country turns in the next African disaster the guys who sat by and Voted for the Da instead of cope will think if only. Cope can win this election if people just stop voting for small silly parties who have no realistic chance of changing this country.

The guys who moved and formed this party may not have agreed with everything the ANC stood for but have no other way of getting by other than sticking with the ANC, then came the chance for a break away and see how many left? They know whats coming and they are our only hope if you ask me.

Getting white okes to vote for a black party will be hard though, those votes could win this election for cope but the narrow minded people of this country will vote DA i think. By voting DA your making sure cope lose votes and Zuma becomes president. then its a matter of time before the shyte hits the fan.

Quite true.... its more likely that the people that won at Polokwane have been the ones controlling the ANC for some time and are now making a move.

Mbeki is being accused of being behind the formation of COPE.

Just think about the recent announcement that they would reinstate the Scorpions!

The ANC claimed the population supported the decision to disband the Scorpions, despite a vigorous outcry all over the place against the move to do so.

Policies like these that fall within the realms of our current constitution are going to swing current ANC votes away from the party and towards COPE, as a more viable opposition for the masses.

Well we will find out next year.
Expect some more media on the ANC and how it plans to make the new force better, despite firing the boss while blindfolding and handcuffing the unit to the minister and the Chief of Police at the very time the Chief of Police himself was being pursued on corruption and racketeering charges.

The ANC and Namibian ruling South West Africa People's Organisation (Swapo) have described breakaway parties as counter revolutionaries who aim to undermine gains made by the two former liberation movements. This is contained in a joint statement released at Swapo headquarters in Windhoek today.
as the ANC mantra remains unchanged as it is stuck in its struggle past, with nothing new and progressive to offer the people.
Dont dare think for yourselves, we will think for you.

The pirates of Polokwane takeover was not a unanimous affair, it was rather closely contested from what I understand, hence the divisions within in the party.
Zuma does not have outright support.

Maybe it's just me... but I don't trust the COPE fskrs. Most, if not all of them were a big part of the issues I personally have with the ANC (corruption, lies, zip-delivery etc)

/* me dons tin foil hat...
prediction of a big kiss-and-make-up session after elections. COPE collects all the negative votes and then "donates" them back to ANC in exchange for seats on the gravy train again
/*...doffs tin foil hat

won't even get a whiff of my vote

They got my vote without doubt.

No point in the white's and coloureds etc who vote DA the whole time voting for them because we just splitting the vote.

The DA and the rest must not get a single vote and all those people voting for other parties, other than the anc need to vote in COPE.

I think i would actually even like a rally or some kuk to get the vote's for cope instead of DA,ifp etc :p

Mmmm NO

So you will vote for a party that implemented AA, BEE and destoyed the police, army and health services? Umm ok good luck with that. I would sooner vote for the ANC than COPE.

Back to the topic......

According to the (still useless) IEC web site:
15 863 558 people voted last elections.

500 000 people is 1/30, or about 3% of the voting base.
Considering probably (my guess) no more than 1 in 5 people "pay" to be a political supporter, that 500 000 is seriously a big number.
